Peace among us

Jack

Mark and I walked through the halls together the next day. We hadn't decided on whether or not to tell anyone yet, so we were discrete about our relationship for right now. "So, when do you think you'd be free this week?" I asked. "Hmm, Friday at 6. Why?" He asked. "Perfect. My mom wants to meet you, and I have something to tell you." I said. "Okay. Sounds good. Seeing as our moms work together I don't think my mom would mind." He laughed. We went to our class and sat next to each other.

Since there was a sub in our class we mostly talked about random stuff. Video games. Favourite colors. Etc. We almost didn't hear the bell ring but we gathered our things and went to our next class together.

The time came for us to finally split up again and go to our separate class. Dance and Song. I hugged him and walked into the room. "Okay guys, change of plans today. You guys are all gonna go hang out in the dance studio for today because I have to go to an emergency. Now Shoo." The teacher shooed us out and we all walked down to the dance studio. We walked in and the teacher kind of gave us this. Look. "Sit over there and stay out of the way. We may need a couple of you to sing today." I heard a few of the singers scoff in annoyance. Were they really rivals? I thought they'd get along well, y'know, considering they both use music. We sat down and I watched for Mark. His eyes widened when he spotted me before waving. I waved at him and smiled. "Wish me luck." He winked. "You don't need luck." I stood. "You have me." I whispered. He smiled at me. "My lucky little leprechaun." He ruffled my hair. I laughed and sat back down.

"What the hell?" The kid next to me said. "What?" I asked. "You. A singer. Are friends with Mark Fischbach. Captain of hip-hop?" He asked. "Uh, yeah. Why, is that bad?" I asked. He nodded. "Just be careful kid. Don't want to end up like Aaron." He whispered the last part. I was about to ask who that was when the music started. I stayed quiet and watched Mark dance and lead the whole group and my god it was impressive. I resisted the urge to clap and cheer for him.

After maybe fifteen minutes the teacher called up a few of the singers and were showing them a song to sing acapella. They nodded, clearly annoyed they had to sing for them. They started singing and the dancers started to dance. Soon the music kicked it. It was quieter than the singers, but still noticeable. I nodded my head along to it and watched them perform. I looked between the two groups, noticing that a few of them were glaring at each other. One of our singers started to get way to into it and was spreading his arms out. He did the overdramatic turnaround and hit one of the dancers, causing them to fall over and knock over someone else.

Uh-oh. This wasn't gonna go well. "Dude, what the hell?!" The dancer asked from the floor. "Maybe you should watch what you're doing." The singer sneered. I walked over to the two dancers and held out my hands for them to take. I offered a kind smile too. The first to fall over was hesitant but took my hand and I helped him up. The other girl took a pass to rest for a moment. "What do you mean watch what I'm doing? I'm doing what I'm supposed to." The dancer stated. "James. Calm down." One of the singers said to him. "Yeah James." Our singer taunted. James growled and shoved the singer. "Hey!" The teacher finally acknowledged what was happening. They started fighting and I stepped in, trying to pull James and Jordan apart. "Guys stop fighting!" Mark said from somewhere behind me. "Get off me pipsqueak. Jordan said shoving my face backwards. I fell over and clutched my nose.

Liquid that I assumed was blood, poured from it. I stood up again and grabbed James shirt, pulling him away from Jordan and standing in between the two of them with my arms outstretched. "Fighting isn't gonna get you guys anywhere!" I shouted at them. "Jordan. You made a mistake. Apologize for it. You knocked over two dancers." I said. "It's not my-" "Yes it is!" James shouted trying to push past me. Mark held him back while I continued to talk. "Jordan, we're here in their dance studio. You can't do the dramatic twirl while they're dancing. You hit James in the face and knocked her over as well." I said calmly. "So? They should've given us room." He said. "Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. You moved in front of them. They practice these dances in here. They have certain places to step, meanwhile, you as a singer, can move where you need to." I said. He huffed in annoyance and shuffled off to sit down with everyone else. "James, you good?" I asked. "Yeah, I'm good. I'm chill." He said. Mark let go of him and backed up. "Thanks Mark." I said.

"Don't thank me yet. Do you want me to get him cleaned up?" Mark asked the teacher. She nodded. "Yeah, before he gets blood everywhere." She said. Mark walked me to the bathrooms and I sat on the sink after he insisted on cleaning it up himself. "Why?" I asked. "Because I love you and this gives me a chance to do this." He leaned forward and kissed me. I kissed back and stood up. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me close to him. "I love you too, ye big doof." I said. "That was cool of you to stop their fighting, just so you know." He said. I shook my head. "I can't stand fighting, especially between groups like this. Why can't there just be peace among us? We're all still human." I said leaning against him. "I know, I wish we could get along too. It's gonna take a miracle to bring everyone together." He said. This gave me an idea. Maybe I could show him sooner.

"Mark. You're a genius." I said kissing his cheek. "I uh...You lost me." He said. "After school, I need your help with something." I said as we walked back out. "Okay. What is it?" I smiled at him. This was probably going to be the craziest, stupidest, and most amazing thing I'd ever done. If it meant revealing myself to Mark sooner that I had expected, then it would be well worth it.
