Mack's POV. Chapter 4

After school was over, I met Kat out in the courtyard so we could walk home. When she walked up I glanced at her wrists which were severely bruised. "Oh my god, Kat! What happened?!" I said with concern. "Some stupid boys pushed me around today," she replied. "It's nothing." "It's nothing?!" I hollered. "No boy is gonna lay hands on my sister! "Mack just stay out of it," Kat pleaded. "Steve and Ponyboy saved me anyways." My face and attitude lightened at the thought of our old friends. "Really? Do they...?" I raised an eyebrow. Kat shook her head. "Had no idea who I was." On that note, we decided to head down to the DX to grab a Pepsi-Cola. As we walked up, we saw the MOST handsome guy, with chocolate brown hair and laughing eyes. By the looks of his chiseled chin, I knew it had to be him; Sodapop Curtis. Kat was practically melting in her shoes like ice-cream on a hot summer day. As we approached the counter he smiled and said in a smooth tone, "Hey ladies! How can I help you?" I smirked and replied "Two Pespi-Colas please." Just then, they all burst in: Dally, Darry, Steve, Ponyboy, Two-Bit, and Johnny. Oh, sweet black eyed Johnny. He was more skiddish than last time I saw him and he looked nervous, as if someone was watching him. "Hey guys!" Soda said as he handed us our sodas. "Hey Pony!" Steve exclaimed pointing at Kat. "It's that girl we saved from the Socs today." Kat waved and then turned her gaze back to Soda. Dally waltzed over to us and leaned on the counter almost tripping. "Hello fine ladies," he sauntered. "I need to know your names." I responded, "Katlyn and Mackenzie McHolden." Soda's face brightened as if a light bulb went off in his head. "Hey guys," he said with curiosity. "We used to have childhood friends with the last name McHolden." Kat and I nodded gesturing towards ourself. "Kat?" Soda questioned. "Mack?" Dally followed. We nodded again and giggled flirtatiously. Kat glanced at Soda again. "Took ya long enough Curtis!" Soda grinned his reckless grin. "How did y'all know?" Dally asked amazed. "How could we NOT know with those signature big eyebrows of yours!" I teased. Dallas chuckled. "Hey watch it kid!" "So, how's your parents?" I asked unknowingly towards Ponyboy. Darry bit his lip. "Uh, maybe y'all should come on over. We have A LOT of catching up to do."
