Mack's POV. Chapter 10

Weeks went by after my "talk" with Dallas, and things had suddenly changed. Dally HAD kept his promise of changing. He was suddenly opening doors for me, doing things legal, and quitting dirty talk. It was like he really wanted me. But, he couldn't have wanted me, could he? I mean, he was Dallas Winston; a mean, tough, player. I thought about all this as I was sitting alone in the Curtis house with Ponyboy one day. It was getting late, but Kat and Soda were still at the DX, probably watching the sunset or something, and Dally was God only knows where. So as Ponyboy and I talked for a little while, I decided to tell my old friend of what was on my mind. "Pony?" I started. "Yeah?" he answered. "Can you keep a secret for me?" "Well sure, I guess," he replied. I told him of my feelings for Dally and the fact that I didn't know if he really liked me or not. "Well," he said. "Dallas isn't

really that bad of a guy once you get to know him. Maybe you should give him a chance. I mean, if he's done all that changing just for you, he REALLY likes you." I considered what Pony had just told me. "I don't know Pony," I replied. "Maybe I should take a chance with him. Thank you, by the way. You're a great friend." Pony smiled at me and I got up to use the bathroom. As I turned back one more time I realized he was looking at me really weird. I didn't recognize the look at the moment, but I found out sooner or later I would.

The next day, I woke up at my house and saw Kat sleeping soundly beside me. She must have gotten home later than me last night, because I didn't remember her being in bed when I got home. "Kat," I whispered. "Wake up." Kat groaned and woke up. She moaned as she sat up and rubbed her eyes. I told her about how I was going to find Dallas today and tell him that I loved him and I was ready to go steady. She smiled like she knew something I didn't. "I have some news," she finally said. "Soda and I are, well..." "Spit it out!" I yelled in excitement. "We're going steady!" she blurted. I smiled widely and I looked at my sister with pride. "I'm so happy for you!" I gushed. Kat grabbed my shoulders and looked into my eyes with ambition. "Mack," she exclaimed. "You find Dallas right now, and you go get him!" With that I pulled my clothes on and ran to the Curtis house, for which I knew Dally

always liked to hang out at in the morning and afternoon. As soon as I ran up, there he was. The only downside, was that he was kissing another girl.
