Mack's POV. Chapter 16

I know Kat kind of made it seem like Ponyboy walked in all romantically and stuff, but it was actually kind of awkward. That evening he had walked up really slow, staring at the ground like he was shy or something. He looked up and smiled at me and I started to say "Hey." That's when he sat down and just kissed me. It should have been a long romantic kiss, but my eyes were open the whole time. It wasn't that I didn't liked it, it was that I was surprised Pony like me! When we finished the kiss I looked at him in surprise. I started to talk when he interrupted me yet again. "I really like you. I didn't realize it until you and me started talking again. I mean, the feelings have always been there, but I didn't take the time to really think about them. I've read a lot of romance novels Mack, but I think we're special. I don't think we will be like other love stories. We'll never break up like the others. We'll never fight like the others. That's because we will never have a reason too! I mean think about it..." He went on and on and on that whole evening until it was night time. Finally he took a breath and let me talk. "Ponyboy," I said. "Yeah?" he answered as if afraid of what I would say back. "I don't think I like you back." Ponyboy frowned not understanding why I was still smiling. "You see, I don't just like you. I love you." I finished. His frowned disappeared and the fear in his eyes went away. It was as if three words could fix a person's day immediately. We kissed again, and this time I wasn't caught off guard. When we were finished, with his dazzling eyes looked into mine. "Everything that I said is true Mack. We really are different." I smirked at him and thought of the best answer I could. "Shoot, maybe they are."
