Gray's pov
I walked through the forest, looking for (Y/n). I spotted the trail of blood that led through the forest. The blood was dried up and crusted onto the grass and leaves but thankfully it hadn't rained so the spots hadn't been washed away.
I followed them with Pepper on my head and I had to admit, it wasn't too bad. I understand why Natsu let's Happy sit on his head a lot. I shook the thought out of my head and kept walking till we reached a canyon.
Water splashed and bubbled angrily, slapping against the canyon. "No one could survive that" Pepper pointed out, her paw leading across the canyon and finally stopping at the point where there was a waterfall
I looked at the edge and bent down, ignoring the pain in my ankle as I examined the edge of the cliff. There was a rough edge on one section as if some pieces had recently come loose. I checked the edge and it seemed to be sturdy which meant that it couldn't have fallen on its own.
Looking to both sides, I examined the canyon. It was too wide for me to jump across but not too wide for the golem to jump. Considering they were bigger than I was, it makes sense that they can jump it.
Deciding to walk along the edge leading away from the waterfall, I kept my eye on the canyon, noticing no change in the width. Eventually I came to a spit where a tall tree that had been knocked down was which had landed on the other end of the canyon.
Grabbing onto Pepper since she probably won't be so keen on the height and wouldn't be able to fly me over and stepped onto the bridge. I checked to see if it was sturdy enough to hold before proceeding along the tree branch with careful and slow steps.
A couple of times, I stepped on a loose branch and almost fell when a couple others snapped but I managed to make it to the other side, thankful that I hadn't plummeted into the angry waters below.
I walked back down towards the waterfall, looking for anything when I spotted another trail of blood or should I say a continuation of the blood trail from earlier. I looked at Pepper who was unconscious in my arms. "Must of passed out from when I walked along the tree" I told no one, placing the Exceed back on my head.
I followed the blood trail once again but eventually a splash of water fell on my nose. I looked up as more droplets of water fell before it got heavier. I looked around and found a cave, rushing in to keep Pepper and myself dry.
Pepper sat up with a yawn and looked at me. "What's going on" she asked, rubbing her eye. "It's started raining and the blood trail that I found on this side of the canyon will be washed away by the rain" I explained, sighing with a hand on my forehead, pain throbbing from the touch.
"Maybe we should call help then. We could call Tyler and Autumn so we have a better ch-" Pepper spoke but I cut in. "No. I'm doing this myself" I snapped, glaring at the Exceed.
In surprise, she leapt back a little and lay on her belly, her ears flat. "What are you doing" I asked confused by the action. "Well. You snapped at me and it was scary. I'm not used to the anger directed at me" Pepper explained, her ears still down.
"I'm sorry. I just don't need help. I'm fine with doing this on my own" I explained calmly. Pepper padded over on all fours and at first I was confused before remembering that (Y/n) told me that Pepper was a cat where they came from so she's probably not fully used to being an Exceed now.
She climbed into my lap and curled up with a purr. "I think you'll be a great husband to (Y/n) one day" Pepper whispered sleepily through a yawn before she slowly fell asleep.
'Wait did she just say husband. Never mind. She was probably not thinking straight' I thought, shaking the thought out if my head before falling asleep myself.
