It's been 7 years since Camila and I made that promise in the park, but of course it all changed once we arrived at Ember Valley. Things change when you get to high school and you lose your best friend whom you have a crush on ever since you were little. I'm not mad or anything. I'm just a little upset that she picked Jackson over me, because thanks to him, I can't talk to Camila like I used to and that sucks. I was interrupted of my thoughts by the annoying sound of my alarm clock going off. I hit snooze and groggily woke up. I walked to my bathroom and splashed cold water on my face. I put on a red Hollister t-shirt along with my dark skinny jeans and my white high top sneakers. To finish it off, I put a gray beanie on my head, since I'm insecure about my hair. I raced downstairs to the kitchen to fix a bowl of cereal, where I see my dad reading the morning newspaper and my mom fixing her daily coffee.

"Morning, sweetie," mom said, kissing the top of my head.

"Hey mom," I said, grabbing the Fruit Loops off the counter and pouring it in my bowl. Yeah, I'm one of those people who doesn't like milk in their cereal.

"You excited for your first day as a junior, kiddo?" dad asked, putting the newspaper down.

"I guess," I said, rubbing the cereal against the spoon.

"Come on, eat. You can't go to school on an empty stomach," mom said, taking a sip of her coffee.

I eat and after I'm finished eating, I put my bowl in the sink and went upstairs to my room. I grabbed my phone off the charger and saw I got a text from Alex.

Alex😎
Picking you up at your place in 5 minutes.

I went back to my bathroom to brush my teeth and then I headed back to my room to get ready for school. I put my song book in my backpack & fling my backpack over my shoulder and headed downstairs to say goodbye to my parents.

"Later mom. See ya dad," I said, rushing out the front door.

"Bye Austin," mom and dad both said & went back to get ready for work.

I waited on the front porch steps for Alex until I saw his car pull up into the driveway. I rush to his car and open the door, "It's about time you made it."

"Haha yeah," Alex said, laughing.

He drove off to school and after a few stops, we pull up into the parking lot & found an empty space. I got out and Alex follows behind me. Once I get inside, I see Camila & Jackson making out next to my locker, how lovely. Jackson does this every morning just to annoy me and congrats because it's working. I made a coughing noise to know that I'm here and blocking my way.

"Oh, I didn't see you there, loser," Jackson said, smirking.

"Hey Austin. I haven't seen you in awhile," Camila said, smiling a little.

"Hey Camila," I said, opening up my locker, trying not to make eye contact because last time I did that, Jackson beat the shit out of me.

"Babe, let's go somewhere else," Jackson said, walking off with his arm around her waist.

I don't get what Camila ever saw in him. I mean he's not even that good looking. I knew I should've told her sooner, but before I knew it, it was too late.

"Yo, don't let him get to you," Alex said, interrupting me from my thoughts.

"Yeah, you're right." I said, putting my backpack in my locker and closing it. Alex & I walked off to homeroom and took a seat in the back. Just awesome, Jackson was in the same homeroom as me. Great.

"Hey puke," Jackson said, sitting next to me while his buddies grabbed the desks around me.

"What do you want, Jackson?" I asked, not feeling the mood.

"What's that? Your diary?" Jackson, pointing at my songbook and his buddies were laughing.

"It's nothing. Just leave me alone," I said, closing my songbook and holding it against my body.

"Uhm, no," he said.

Camila may be dating that jerk but she's still cares for me like used to, "Jackson, leave Austin alone and come over here," Camila said, gesturing him to walk over to her and her friends.

I continue writing in my songbook, until Ms. Thomas walks in and started going over the first day basics. I zone out and go back to my songbook. The bell rings for the passing period and I rush out the door until I fell on my butt. I saw Jackson and his friends laughing and I grabbed my things when I felt a hand on mine. I haven't felt that spark in a long time and I looked up & saw Camila.

"I'm sorry about that, Austin. Jackson can be a real jerk sometimes," Camila said, handing my songbook to me.

"Sometimes? How about try ALL THE TIME?" I whispered shouted so no one heard me.

"I'll walk with you to first period, because I miss talking with you, Austin." Camila said, putting a strand of hair behind her ear and smiling a little.

I missed that beautiful smile of hers. I haven't seen it since she started dating that Jackson jerk. She's not herself when she's around him, because I've known her for years.

"I miss you so much, Camz. I miss that gorgeous smile of yours," I said, smiling.

Camila blushed and smiled, "You're cute. Anyways, what's your first class, Austin?"

"Algebra 2, what about you?" I said, trying to hold her hand but she must've noticed, because she pulled back.

"Same," Camila said and we both walked into the classroom at the same time. Luckily, I don't have to worry about Jackson during first period so it'll just be like it used to with me & Camila and I'm happy for that.

"Well, Jackson isn't in this class so you don't have to worry about him," Camila said, taking a seat in the middle.

"I just hope this class is like all of my other classes," I said, taking the desk next to Camila.

"No Jackson?" she questioned.

"Yeah, sure..." I lied, I hope the rest of my classes will be just me & Camila, because there won't be any interruptions by Jackson or any of his buddies. I just only hope...
