The alarm started to beep, which I rolled over and slam down the snooze button with a fist. Once I got out from bed, I stretched and then headed to the bathroom. I headed back to my room to get dressed- I wore a red/white checkerboard plaid button shirt, dark brown cargo pants, and red/white supras. I raced downstairs to the kitchen to eat some breakfast.
"Morning guys," I said to my parents as I was about to get a bowl from the cabinet.
"Morning son," dad said, putting the newspaper down.
"Oh sweetie, I made some waffles and bacon since I have the day off," mom said pouring some coffee in a coffee cup.
"Thanks," I said as I grabbed a waffle and 3-4 pieces of bacon. You can't go wrong with bacon.
I ate quickly, then laid the plate in the sink, and went back up to the bathroom. I wet my toothbrush first then put toothpaste on, and brushed my teeth for 60 seconds and spat it out in the sink. I quickly brushed my hair and headed back to my room. I grabbed my Algebra 2 book and journal from my desk and shoved them in my backpack. I unplugged my iPhone from its charger and saw that it was 7:27. I threw my backpack over my shoulder and ran down the stairs.
"Bye guys," I yelled to my parents at the front door.
"Bye son," they yelled back from the kitchen.
I got in my Range Rover and drove to school with the music playing through the speakers. Music lets me escape reality and go into my own little world. Number one on my music: when my headphones are in, I'm in no need to be interrupted unless if it's important. If you yank my headphones out, you're asking for it. I'm in no mood when I'm listening to my music.
I pulled up into an empty parking spot in the lot and turned off my car. I unplugged my phone and hooked up my headphones to my phone, then I put them in my ears and resumed play. I headed inside the building with my thoughts lost in the music and wishing I was anywhere else but here; school just makes me upset and stressed out for no reason. I looked down at my phone to skip to the next song in the playlist and I must have not paid any attention, because I accidentally bumped into someone coming out of the office.
"I'm sorry," I said pausing the song and taking my headphones out of my ears.
"It's fine. I didn't see you coming," she said picking her bag off the ground.
I have to admit she was kind of cute. She was around my height with such swag (I guess you could say) style: black/white high tops, black sweatpants with a black Nike's t-shirt, and a red Adidas varsity jacket. Her kicks were pretty damn impressed like I have to ask where she gets her shoes at cause she has style.
"No, it's my fault. I shouldn't have focused on my phone." I said with a shy smile, "So first day here?"
"Yeah, do you know where Mr. Mitchell's classroom is?" she asked looking down at her schedule.
"You're in luck because I have him for first hour." I said walking up the stairs to my locker, "So, new girl, what's your name?"
"I'm Zendaya and you must be..."
"Austin and welcome to Ember Valley. Where did you move from?" I asked opening up my locker and putting my books in there.
"Oakland," she said leaning against a locker, "Anyways do you know where locker 918 is?"
I grabbed my Algebra 2 stuff, put my backpack on the little hook, and closed my locker, "Yeah it's down the hall with the math classes."
I started walking to the classroom with Zendaya behind me, "Oh so I'll have no trouble getting to my first class then."
"Ha yeah I guess..." I looked around on the lockers with 900 and so on, until I found 918, "And here's your amazing locker for the rest of the year."
"Thanks Austin," Zendaya said as she approached her locker, opened it and put her stuff in there.
I leaned against a locker and crossed my arms, "So you said you're from Oakland... Are you a Raiders fan, Z?"
"Oh yeah, what about you?" Zendaya asked while shutting her locker and closing the lock.
"I like the Dolphins but I'm more of a Heat fan, since basketball is my sport," I said rubbing my fingers through my hair.
I looked down at my phone to check the time when I heard my name being called from behind.
"Austin!" I turned around and it was Lauren & Normani.
"Hey Lauren. Sup Normani," I said giving each one a hug, "Oh and this is Zendaya," I said introducing them to Z, "First day here for her."
"I'm Lauren." Lauren said with a smile, "Welcome to Ember Valley."
"Yeah I'll promise you like it here," Normani said with a smile and shaking hands with Zendaya.
Can't promise on that one.
"Hey, where's Camila?" I asked, scratching the back of my head.
"Take a wild guess," Normani said folding her arms.
I shifted uncomfortably at the thought of her spending time with him. I was lost in thought until Lauren caught my gaze, "Hey Mani, go take Zendaya and show her where her first class is."
"Okay... Follow me Z," Normani said as she left with Zendaya behind her.
I leaned against a locker and sighed because I know what she wants to talk about.
"So, Lauren, what is it that you want?" I asked, putting my hands in my pockets.
"How'd the tutoring session go last night?" Lauren asked with a little smirk, crossing her arms together.
I immediately felt my face get hot, "H-how'd you know?"
"Camila texted me about it last night. Did you tell her yet?" Lauren questioned, walking over next to me, leaning against the lockers.
She texted about us last night? That means she talked about me... I think? Sort of, maybe, I don't know...
"Yo Austin! Did you tell her yet?" I was snapped out of my thoughts from Lauren.
"Yeah? I'm sorry what?" I jerked my head a little.
"Did you tell Camz yet? You know...your little crush?" she asked, smirking and still have her arms folded together.
"Not really..." I said looking down, rubbing my hand through my hair, "It's harder than you think, Jauregui."
I headed to Algebra 2 and sat down in my desk. I groaned my head back on what I told Lauren. If it was easier, I would've ended up with her by now, but life is no fairy tale. No matter how many times I try to tell Camila, I always get interrupted. I should know by now and just give up, but there's a part of me that doesn't want to give up, because true love is worth fighting for. Sure, there's pain and heartbreak along the way, but in the end I know I love her. I've been in love with her since the sixth grade.
I'm not stopping, until she knows how I actually feel about her.
