"'Cause I don't ever want to know,"

Cole's POV:

The temperatures seem to drop with every minute, another storm on it's way to Boston. I carry three plastic bags full to the brim of foods I've grabbed off the shelves of the market, I receive confused glances with every step, but I don't care.

I'm one block away from the house, and I can already sense something wrong, my gut yelling at me to run. Picking up my speed, I come into view of the house, Mason's car parked out front just as I was before I left. I stride up the steps and struggle to open the door and enter frantically.

Mason and Stella are nowhere to be found, neither is Adeline. This realization makes the hairs on my neck stand on end, my heartbeat picking up a few beats. Loud footsteps from up above turn my attention towards the staircase, as the sounds become louder when they get closer to me.

Mason and Stella with frantic faces come around the stairwell and see me.

"Where's Adeline?" I ask, trying to keep myself from yelling.

"She said that she would be right back, and disappeared upstairs," Mason states.

"We went up there to see if she was alright, but we saw her bedroom window open," Stella conveys. Both of their expressions are sorrowful, and they stare at me, waiting for my reaction.

I stay silent, not moving, trying to interpret their words in my mind correctly, trying to manipulate what they said so that the truth doesn't hit me so hard. But I failed, their words were like baseball bats hitting a ball.

"S-she's gone?" I ask again, hoping to hear the word "no" come from their mouths, but I get the opposite.

"Yes, she's gone," Stella steps forward closer to me, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder as Mason takes the bags from my hands.

"We have to look for her!" I shout, "she could be anywhere! We have to go search," I start towards the door again, but am halted by my brothers hand. He steps in front of me, with an unreadable emotion painted across his features.

"We can't just search the streets, like you said she could be anywhere, and we can't do it alone," he states.

"What are you saying?"

"We have to report a missing person, that way more people will be searching...not just us," Stella finishes Mason's thought for him, as she slowly strides to his side.

"We'll never be able to find her on our own," Mason restates.

I take a small step back, "okay, then I'll go down to the PD and file one, you two start searching. Look around the neighborhood, she couldn't have gone far in ten or so minutes."

They both nod, taking a quick glance at one another. I step around them, starting towards the door and start at a bolting run as I make it outside. I gaze back for a quick second, expecting them to be outside, but they're not. They're nowhere to be spotted. I let it go, and pick up my pace, jaunting down the street closer to the Police Department, and what I didn't realize was the street of my job.

People that I recognize stand on the street, smoke coming from their mouths and nostrils, cigarettes in hand. As soon as they see me, they start calling for me, some even run after me. People that I don't even know or let alone seen before start chasing me.

I have no choice but to stop and tell them off. I glance over my shoulder and see the department, and the anticipation to get there only grows like a weed. Unknown faces start to hide my perfect sight of the building, their voices chanting my fake name over and over again.

"Get away from him, give him some space you lunatics!" Someone far behind shouts, and they all listen, taking immeasurable steps to back away from me, revealing Logan.

He strides to me casually, and puts his arm around my shoulder, pulling me in for a side hug and lightly punches my in the side.

"Where were you today? So many people were hoping to see you, their bets were nothing I've ever seen before!" He utters quietly. His words come to me as blurbs, not words. My eyes are still set on the building in front of me, and Logan realizes this, for he stops walking and gets in my line of sight.

He runs a hand quickly through his strawberry blonde hair, his dark green eyes focused on me.

"What's wrong with you, man? I'm trying to talk to you," he states, his tone puzzled.

I break my gaze and stare at him, his height the same as mine. "Sorry, it's just that now's not a good time," I state frantically, trying to convey the fact that I can't deal with him right now without sounding rude. He doesn't get the hint though, for he opens his loud mouth again.

"Sure it is! C'mon, you need to loosen up! This is why you can't stay home on the weekends all cooped up like a zoo animal. You're going to the Ring, and I'm not taking no for an answer," he says in a sternly demanding voice. As I'm about to open my mouth in protest and refusal, the strangers from around us start pushing us towards the secret entrance to the Ring.

"See! The people love you!" Logan shouts over the roars of the crowd, but I cannot think of anything else besides Adeline, the though of her being lost and alone makes my stomach churn.

The thought of her gone makes my mind run wild.
