"Most nights I pray for you to come home,"
_________

We've been driving for hours, it feels as if we've been going around in circles because every route we go we get the same answer, no Adeline. My eyes are dry from not blinking, my jaw sore from clenching and unclenching it so many times over.

The small confined space of the car stayed quiet for half of the drive, not a word has been spoken since I told Stella everything Adeline had told me about the Owners. We've pasted trees, fields, and more buildings, and still no sign of her. Its almost as if she's disappeared off the face of the earth, nowhere to be found...ever. I stare down at the clock on the GPS screen built into the vehicle, the Honda symbol above it.

"I think I might know where Adeline is," Mason states, his voice so sudden, so unexpected. My heat leaps and skips a beat when he stated this.

"Where?"

"Its a little bit a ways from here, but it's a place where runaways can go to get food, shelter, and care. It's a place where most teens go." He answers, taking his eyes off the road for a second to glance at me then focuses back on the road.

"How do you know that she'd be there?" I press.

"I said I might know, kid, plus this place is huge. They have advertisements to encourage adolescents who are runaways to come to this place so that they can help them get the proper care they need." He pauses to wait for my response.

What he says sounds legit, but how would Adeline even know where to go? Where would she even find out about it? If this place is so huge and has advertisements all the time, then how come I've never seen one before?

I give Mason a skeptical eye, and he sees this and only pushes the matter more, "if she's not there then we could ask for some help, and maybe we'll get a call soon that the police found her."

Hearing about the police made me crack all of a sudden out of nowhere, "I didn't make a missing person report to the Police. I got pulled away. And every time you mention it, it makes me feel worse!" I bellow, not meaning to. Mason's about to say something, spreading his lips apart but only to close them again when I cut him off.

"Whatever, just keep driving, just go to this place and we'll see if she's there," I state, taking a deep breath and leaning back, needing desperately to calm down. No one makes a further statement about anything, only the sounds of breathing can be heard.

Why can't she just be home, why couldn't she of stayed put and realized that these people are safe. Why? Why did she have to go?
