"Now please don't go, oh no,"
___________

Stepping foot onto familiar grounds has never felt more comforting to me. The glowing street lights shine so brightly, as if they were the sun shining during the day. The front porch lights are off, and so are the lights inside. The neighborhood street is unusually quiet and eerie. No noise being made from any given direction.

"So this is the place? It's nice," Logan loudly bellows, not thinking that it is around ten at night on a Wednesday.

"It's not mine, it's Adeline's," I honestly state. Logan nods, closing his car door and locking the vehicle. The lights blink once as a loud siren from the car goes off a single time, alerting of its successful sealing.

I jaunt up the steps of the house, clamping my hand around the door knob as I reach my hand into my pocket, fishing for the key. My hand ricochets the metal, and I grab it instantly, pulling it out and placing it into the key hole. The door's lock makes a soft click, the hinges coming lose as I open the door, Logan trailing closely behind.

I'm instantly met with the familiar interior, everything as before left untouched, undisturbed, as if no one was ever here.

"What now?" Logan's low, husky tone sounds from behind me, interrupting the silence.

I stay quiet for a moment, thinking quietly. "We check for any signs that they might be somewhere else than Texas, then we'll go to your friends, the ones you claim know how to find hiding people."

Logan bobs his head once again, catching my words within his mind. "Alright, well lets get searching, I'll take the basement first and you can have the upstairs and base level," he orders. With his instructions in mind, Logan involuntarily strides towards the basement door.

The hinges creak loudly at their immediate use. He begins to descend the steps, the soles of his shoes clapping boorishly. My heart beats rapidly in my chest out of reverence that he might find something, something horrible, something disturbing.

He reaches the bottom, and disappears from the threshold of the stairway, ambulating further into the darkness of the vacant space. Adeline refused to store anything down there because every time she even slightly glanced at the door, her mind would freeze. She explained it as if she was being put into a coma, she couldn't move or communicate for seconds; she would be petrified to the bone.

Now, because of me, she's in their hands again, because of me shrugging off her cries, she's in danger. Because of me, I've given her back to the Owners, the people that I vowed to keep her safe from at all costs, and I've broken that vow. Now she'll never trust me again.

I'm immediately jarred from my thoughts when Logan's piercing voice travels up the stair way, his figure soon appearing in the doorway.

"Dude, you've got to see this!" He shouts in horror and disbelief. His face is painted with a stare of fear. I scrutinize him for one quick second, feeling petrified myself just as Adeline did when she thought of the basement.

"Come on!" He urges again, "we've most likely got very little time left." When those eight words leave his mouth, I jaunt down the stairs, skipping two and three steps at a time. I push past his body harshly and stagger into the darkness. I glance around in ever direction I can, but find nothing, my face begins to convey a look of confusion and frustration.

That is when Logan pulls down on the string handing from the ceiling, a single lightbulb flickering on. A very small space illuminates under the bulb's light, and what it illuminates is far from horrifying, it' worse. There sitting in the scant light is a single piece of paper...surrounded with drops of dark crimson blood.

I begin to hyperventilate, my blood turning cold.

"Oh...my," I breathe, unable to finish my sentence. My eyes begin to glass over, my throat becoming so dry as if it were morphing into sand paper. I drop to my knees, and reluctantly reach for the piece of paper, which also has drops of blood splattered on it.

My hand shake vigorously. Logan comes in front me, kneeling directly adjacent from where I'm positioned. I stare down at the letter in anguish, in terror. My mind urges me to read it, but the rest of me restricts it. I push through and avert my gaze to the first word

This is what you get, for being so oblivious. A new wound has opened and your hourglass is running out of sand. Hurry and catch us if you can, pretty boy

My entire body becomes frozen, I can't move. I glance up at Logan as he stares back at me with question and a hint of sympathy.

Acting on impulse, completely losing control of my body, I stand up abruptly. I crumble the letter in my hands throwing is a short distance, My mouth lets out a bloodcurdling bellow, I run my hands through my umber locks fiercely, pulling and tugging at them vigorously.

Logan stands and rushes towards me as I'm about to throw my fists at the wall. He harshly grab my arm, halting my movement.

"Calm down," he shouts, and that's when I lose my last bit of sanity.

"You want me to calm down?! I can't calm down! I've let this happen and now she's somewhere with them struggling to keep breathing! And you have the nerves to tell me to calm down!" Without thinking, I charge to Logan, my fist tightly balled up, the skin around my knuckles turning white.

He snatches my wrists, and throws a punch at my jaw. His movement jostles me backwards, my legs giving out, my body toppling to the ground. A slight groan escapes my voice box

"Listen here, Cole," he retorts my name demandingly, with order. "If you don't calm down, we'll have no chance at getting to Adeline. We'll be out of time if you don't take this seriously and keep calm. I get it, alright, she's the world to you and you want her back, but you won't be able to save her when you act like a baboon! Now get up and let's start on our action plan before it's too late."

The chapters will most likely - from now until the end - be as long as this because stuff is about to go down! I hope that you've liked this chapter and once again I'm so sorry for the sucky updates. Now that it is summer (yay!) I'll be back on a normal updating schedule and hopefully update every day until I'm all done!
