"Praying to the lord,"

"Where is this place? Because there's nothing but trees...for miles," I state, my nerves on end.

"It's up the road, promise me. But they don't like having cars pull up to the building, because they've had incidents in the past of major disturbances." He conveys. "So we probably should stop here and walk the rest of the way," he adds.

He pulls the car over on the side of the dirt road that continues through the trees. The car comes to a stop and I jump out, my feet crushing new blades of grass and a dead weed's skeleton. The other car doors open and slam shut, the soles of their shoes disturbing the pieces of gravel on the ground.

Mason walks around the hood of the car, and Stella joins him at his side. She has been strangely quiet through out the whole ride, and I wonder if that's just how she is, or if its something else.

"Its just up the road here," Mason points up the dirt road. "Its not that far up, though." I nod my head, and start up the road, Mason and Stella trailing very closely behind. I can hear their faint whispers behind me, but I don't focus on what they're saying, but rather my thoughts that keep running over and over in my mind.

The air around me is cold, the trees are rustling in the faint head winds, each branch scratching against one another. A flock of birds soar overhead, disappearing within seconds, then returning again.

"How much further?" I hear Stella ask from behind.

"Just up ahead, not much further I promise," Mason says, pointing up the road, taking the lead. His pace picks up to a jog, and I follow suit, his wife shortly behind. He abruptly stops though, a confused expression on his face.

"What?" I ask, annoyance laced within my tone.

"I don't understand, it should be right here!" He exclaims with an outraged tone.

"What do you mean, should be right here?" I question, "are you saying we're in the wrong place?!"

"We're not far from the car, I can look at the map again, maybe we just took a wrong turn," he reassures in a hopeful tone. "I'll be right back, you just stay here," he gestures his hand for me to stay put, and I oddly listen, not moving from my spot.

I turn my back as soon as I hear Mason's shuffling feet, signaling that he's heading towards the car. Not even a second later, the sound of kicked up rocks is put to rest.

"Have you ever been to this place Mason's talking about?" I ask, turning around only to be met with nothing. I frantically glance around, whipping my head around in every direction. My eyes rapidly scan the area, my heartbeat - once again - picking up spread. It was only Mason who left for the car, not Stella too; but she's gone.

Stella...gone.

Not a second later, I hear the revving of the Honda's engine, and the gravel underneath the tires being kicked up. I immediately start at a bolting dash back down the path where we came from. I turn the corner and see the dust from the wheels in the air, like a dust storm. The body of the car is barely visible through the dust, but I can see it shrinking in the distance. I inhale oxygen but cough from the rocks, but that doesn't stop me from running.

I'm in the middle of nowhere, they left me, they left me out here in the middle of nowhere! I give up running, my lungs feeling like they're full of water. I start to see black spots blur my vision, my chest restricting breaths, my bronchi inflamed from breathing in dust. The car's now out of sight, accelerating off of the road...gone. They left me here, and they're not coming back. Adeline's out alone, and they had the nerves to leave me out here?!
