"What's going on."

"Ma'am you cannot pass this yellow tape."

"Wait no but this is my house. What's going on?" I asked the officer.

"You live here?" she questioned. And I nodded in response.

"I'm afraid there was a break in," she said slowly watching my reaction.

A what this can't be I everything was just fine before I left. Nothing suspicious.

"But how? When? Why? I don't understand, is my family alright," I asked. I was trying to look over her shoulder to see inside the house.

"We are going to take your parents to the hosp-" she stopped talking as I ran to the house just before I went up the steps to the porch I saw the paramedics wheeling my mom out of the house. I fell to my knees as my eyes followed the gurney to the ambulance. A female paramedic tried to help me to my feet. "I-i-is sh-sh-e d-d-dead?" I asked. I could feel the tears burning my eyes and their warmth on my cold cheeks.

"We won't know until they get her to the hospital."she said with a sympathetic look on her face.

"A-and m-m-my dad a-and br-bro-brother?" I questioned. I was shivering but it wasn't even cold outside. It was the nerves. My nerves were making it impossible for me to talk. Even think.

"Your dad is on the way to the hospital. But we didn't find a boy in there."

I ran inside. Caleb didn't have any plans tonight. He was here I knew he was. I ran to his room. My nerves were getting worse and I was sobbing by this time and the tears were blinding me.

"Caleb?! Caleb?! Caleb its me sissie! Its Lizzie." I paused to see if he would answer. "Caleb Meyers you answer me right this m-m-moment!" I yelled and when I heard no reply I fell to my knees and sobbed. My whole life had been ripped from me within a few minutes, everyone gone. I cried bitterly so much so that my head started to hurt. I just sat there wondering what I was going to do, when suddenly a hand touched me and I looked up and it was Caleb.

I quickly grabbed him as I let out a scream.

"Oh Caleb. Oh my sweet boy. Oh my goodness baby brother." I kept crying. Then I realized he was crying too.

"It's O.K. you're safe now. I'm here now. I've got you." As I said those words I knew that they couldn't be farther from the truth. We were alone. As we sat there crying, our breathes and sobs became one as we both realized we were alone in the world.
