1 Year Later: Sept. 14th, 2021; Floor 50
After awhile, Em and I both got adjusted to the front lines and even became well-known players as well. In the game, 3,000 people have died, and it is all Yuko's fault... It is the assault group's job to make sure we clear the game for everyone else who can not make it to the higher level floors, and to avenge those deaths. Today the group is going to challenge the floor 50 boss, and the leader of the highest guild, Ky, is telling us that it is going to be a hard battle too...
In front of the looming boss doors in the dungeon Ky shouted,"PREPARE FOR BATTLE!"
"YEAAH!" the rest of us shouted, so we opened the doors to the 50th boss of the game.
The boss looked like a giant person at first sight, but then at a closer look, it was really a wolf-headed monster with a curved sword as it's weapon. I squinted at it and it's name is 'Wolfang'. Me and Emily charged at it with all we had, slashing with glowing swords and decreasing it's HP bit by bit... Then something happened, and I will never forget it. The boss took a huge swing at Em, tossing her aside like a doll, then decreasing her HP to zero...
"NOO, no no, Emily, Amanda, NOOO!" I screamed
"Clair... please... end this world... for the rest... of the people here... Ok...?" she whispered with a sad smile
"I will", I said teary-eyed,"I will end this world". After she disappeared in a shower of polygons, I charged the boss, and activated 'Star Splash' a 8-hit combo, to finish it off.
When it was over, a screen appeared above everyone saying 'Congratulations', and the personal screen in front of me said, 'Last hit bonus item: Violet Lily Cloak, would you like to equip it now?'. I clicked 'yes', and then realized that my best friend in this world and in the real world, is gone, forever. After I thought that, I immediately collapsed and started crying like a child in the middle of the boss room.
A guy came up to me and said, "Are you all right?"
"No, I'm not. S-She died... B-Because of me, it was all my fault. I-It's all my fault..." I stammered. I looked up and saw a guy about my age, brown hair with deep brown eyes, and I asked, "Who are you?"
"I am Cam, second in command of the Knights of the blood oath, and you are...?", He replied
"I am Clara, solo."
"Hey, about your friend, just know that she died fighting for what she believed in. Do not let her death be in vain, so all you can do is get up and keep moving on, alright?"
"Ok." I said wiping away the tears, "I will keep going for the people who have died before me, and for my best friend who has fallen beside me today."
Three months later; Floor 56
December 24th, 2021
"Rumor has it that there will be an event boss somewhere on the 57th floor there will be an event boss today, and I heard it's name will be Nicholas the Renegade. There is a rare revival item that supposedly shows up if you beat him." the info-broker Kim informed me
"Thanks Kim, how much this time?" I asked, all info-brokers do is get information then sell it to other players, sometimes for unfair prices.
"Nothing this time, all I need from you is one question. How long have you been with Cam? Hmm?" she said cheerily, "If you answer, there will be no charge on this one."
"Kim! Ugh... It's not like that! We are just friends, and I've told you a million times! Wait? Why do you need that kind of information? It has nothing to do with clearing the game at all!" I complained, she can be quite aggravating sometimes...
"Please Clara, you know that you are one of very few women in this game, and some guys like to purchase that info for personal reasons."
"Whaa... Oh never mind." I said, giving up,"See you."
As I was walking into the snow-covered streets, Kim called out and said, "Hey, Clara, if you are thinking about hitting the event boss alone, I wouldn't do it. Doing that would not be safe."
"I'll be fine, don't worry about me and just move on, ok?" I said, leaving her behind.
I walked over to my favorite item shop run by a good friend of mine, Agil, I walked in and asked,"Do you perhaps have any of the maps leading towards the area where the event boss will be?" The huge man walked to the storage and said,
"Yeah I do, but you have a party or something to go with you right? Even though it is a first-time thing in Martinest, it sounds dangerous... Just be careful, ok?"
"Like I said, I will be fine in the field. I'm not called 'Streak Blade' for nothing am I?"
"Like you said? Anyway for the map it will be 500 coal."
"500?!? Oh well..." I said as I clicked the trade button on the pop-up menu,"See you another time Agil."
"Come back anytime."
Floor 57: Endless Evergreen Forest Dungeon
I have to admit, snow in this world is awful. In the real world, the snow is fun and I used to make snowman and play around and stuff, but in Martinest the snow is cold, uncomfortable, and makes me miserable. Honestly, I thought,"Oh it's just a game, I'll be fine in the freezing cold weather with just my armor. I can just leave my coat here." WRONG. I wandered through the forest trying to reach the tallest evergreen to challenge the event boss for the so-called "revival item". I hope to see my friend again, and maybe get her back so that she can see the real world once more. I glanced at the map, and it's only a little further...
Then I reach it, the stage of the Holiday event boss. I then hear the bells indicating that it is time. As the enemy, 'Nicholas the Renegade' falls through the sky, I prepare myself for battle.
"HIIYAAA!!!" I yelled as I charged
A little later, I came back, dejected... Why? Because when I got the item and tried to use it to get Amanda back... The item description was like,"Blah blah revival for players with lowered HP blah blah, administer within 10 seconds before death. I couldn't believe it... She really was gone forever, huh? All I did for the rest of the holiday was cry in my room, and because it was all my fault, she died because I couldn't stand by her side as a friend and help her before she died. Then a window popped up before me, and it said: Gift Box recieved. Huh? I opened it only to see that it was from Amanda.
"Clair, this is for you, so I will get started... Clair, just to let you know... If I died before today, it is not your fault ok? It's just that ever since the 'Death Game' started, I knew that I probably would not make it to the 100th floor with you and the others in the front lines group. That's all, but it looks like I still have time, so can you do one thing for me? Clair, I want you to help clear the game for the everyone who can not fight like me. I fought my hardest, but in this game it was not enough to survive... Make it end, for the rest of the players still alive...
