It has been awhile since I had gone to something normal, and my dinner with Cam was kind of like that. Afterwards, he walked me back to my house and everything. For me it was probably the best thing that happened. Now it has been about a month or two since then, but we still go out like that sometimes... As I walk to the level 85 dungeon, I think about something. Where does Kayaba Yuko watch us from? I mean, this is a question since day one that almost every player has come across. Where is he? A secret base? The basement level of Tomo Inc.? No one knows, though it may seem like the highest ranked player may be him, but no one can ask because it would be like asking a super hero his alternate identity right? A few monsters spawn in front of me, and I engage and defeat them without any problem. In the game Swords Online, many things have changed, for example, since it has been three years since the release, more and more people are settling down in Martinest. Now the front lines group has problems recruiting for the boss fights because so many people are getting used to life here. I walk along in the dungeon and spot a lizard swordsman enemy...
"HIIYAAA!" I yell activating a sword skill to start fighting. Even now as I fight, It seems like just a daily occurance, and not like I am in a game where everything isn't real. "HEYYA!" I shout as I land another attack combo, since my level is 95, these monsters are really just money-making devices. The bosses are where the problem lies. After I defeated it I opened my menu to check one little thing,"Damn... still no log-out" I complain, I check every so often just in case something has changed in the real world, but no such luck happens here. I look at my player profile, and go into my items to get the Mirror item that started all of this. Nothing has really changed, except for my hair, which is now in a pony-tail instead of just being straight down. My purple armor was made by a skilled craftsman because I need good maneuverability as a rapier user...
Now, while I was walking and thinking about all of that, I failed to realize that I walked right up to the boss room door. "Whoops...", I mumbled,"Better head home now I guess."
Floor 99: 1 Year Later
"Can you believe that after four years that we are finally on this floor... I mean Cam... We are finally married and everything, and then the front lines group makes it to the 99th floor. All of it happened so fast I can hardly believe it ya know?" I said to him. Like I said, we got married on the holiday in December, and it was the happiest day of my life. Today we are going to take on the ninety-ninth floor boss of this endeavor, and we will be one step closer to freeing the remaining 5,000 and something players that have survived this long. About 10% of those players make up the front lines group itself.
"Hard to believe isn't it Clair? Sometimes when I am at home i forget what I am fighting for exactly... The when I see you and the others fighting, well, I see the reasons why." He said with a sad smile,"I don't want to forget what happened here, but I do want to meet up with you on the other side..."
"Me too, there are so many things that I have yet to do IRL. Like go on a real date with you." I said teasingly,"I just know that there are so many things like going to college and having a real relationship with someone are the thoughts that keep me going on the battle field as well. There are also the people who are depending on us to complete the game for them because they do not have the same skills with the sword."
"Yeah, that's true Clair." He replied,"Let's finish this death game for everyone who is out there depending on us. We can't give up now because we are on the 99th floor..."
"Ok, Cam, LET'S FINISH THIS!" I exclaimed as I signed up for the 99th boss I would face in this game.
The 99th floor boss is a giant blue ram called: the Demonic Servant. It has a giant straight sword and no shield.
"This will be a tough one." I said, preparing for battle.
"Yeah..." Cam replied, being second in command helps for him though, and he is a few levels above your truly.
In a nutshell, (I'll spare you the details), I was one of the main players in the battle, slashing and striking at the bosses legs. The others in the back came and switched after the first group, me and a few others, finished off the first two HP bars out of 6. The fight was spectacular to watch, but I did feel horrible when I saw a comrade fall in battle. The commander of Cam's guild seemed quite anxious today, and he was performing well... The commander asked me once to join, but I declined. I was always a solo player, even when Amanda was around. Then my attention turned back to the boss.
"It's last HP bar has gone into the red zone! Everyone prepare for battle!" The commander yelled as I braced myself for battle. I took position to start the skill 'Laser Stream', a 5-hit combo. Then, after about 5-6 minutes of pure fighting skill, it was over. Everyone celebrated as we all were one step closer to our own liberation.
"Floor 100, HERE WE COME!!" Cam shouted over the jubilation.
"Woohoo!!" I exclaimed. It has been about four years, and we have finally made it to the final stage of our journey. The memories, both good and bad, came flooding back to me as nostalgia from the first day here filled me. The 'Death Game' starting, me and Amanda, meeting Cam, every battle I had ever fought to get right here in the plaza of the golden city: floor 100.
