Thea
Melissa has changed.
That's the observation I had made in the past few months but have only finally decided to accept it around a week ago.
She seemed to distance herself from Rose and I and I don't know why. We live together and Rose's apartment is next to ours so its quite hard to ignore us but she did it.
She made it work and it hurts because we've known each other for a long time and Rose and she seemed to be good friends too but I guess I couldn't always keep her as my best friend.
I so badly wanted to talk some sense into her, ask her what's wrong or what I did to make her try and put a wall between us but I know I cant because she will forever leave me if I question her in any way.
Rose and I were talking her on our way to university together because we had a lecture at the same time today, all three of us did but Mel had left before the both of us.
"I don't know what's wrong with her," I finally confessed to Rose, worry seeping through my voice.
"Let me guess, blonde hair, blue-eyed beauty by the name of Melissa," Rose arched her eyebrows asking a question she already knew the answer to.
"Ro, I cant do these with her anymore, I want the old Melissa back. The Melissa who laughed with us gossiped about random things and ate ice cream with us every night instead shes replaced by this doll controlled by society - ice cream has too many calories, I need to act lady-like and gossiping is rude." I sighed, my mimicking of Mel had been accurate around the end because its what she said to us.
"What did I do wrong, Rose?" My eyebrows furrowed, thinking hard about what had happened in the past year - thinking of any sort of horrible things I had said or did to Mel.
Rose stopped, holding onto my shoulders she looked me dead in my eyes, "Thea, you did nothing wrong, you were a great friend to her and if she has changed then that's her own fault don't stress too much. If she was meant to be our friend then she will come back, and I know she will because its Mel we are talking about."
I felt like I was slapped in the face with reality, Rose is right, Mel has chosen her path but she would come back its goofy, corny Mel we are talking about and she would never leave us without an explanation.
"remember Mel's famous mantra?" Rose asked me, and I smiled knowing we both knew it like it the back of our hands.
"Sisters never turn their backs on each other," Rose and I spoke in unison, we both grinned and I secretly prayed that Mel opens her eyes before she dives first into the deep end of the water without any supporting gear.
I had walked along with Rose and we reached campus with a new found hope that I never had before my conversation with Rose.
