It was almost midnight, the moon only a sliver of light, leaving the city of Stiix in the dark. Morro and Ghoultar were keeping an eye on Lloyd, while the other ghosts were patrolling the city, looking for signs of the ninja. Ghoultar was sleeping, which Morro didn't quite understand since they were ghosts, and left the ghost general as the only one awake in the rundown pawn shop.He glared daggers at the green ninja, who seemed to be sleeping well despite the fact that he slept in a sitting position on the floor inside a cage.
"How can you sleep so well despite that you're being held hostage?" Morro hissed at him, knowing full well that it was impossible for him to hear.
Quietly, he phased through the bars of the cage with ease, a big shit-eating grin plastered on his face.
"But you've lost, green ninja. I won, and your stupid little friends can't stop me," he gloated, mere inches away from him.
The green ninja didn't look so great when in this state, visble black bags under his eyes made great contrast with his pale face, and a faint bruise had formed on his cheek. Morro had also noticed him getting more scrawny, perhaps he should give him an apple or something before they left for the first Spinjitzu Master's tomb.
Morro frowned.
Wait, he looked much paler than last time he got a good look at him. What if...?
Morro leaned back to sit in front of him and reached out his translucent greenish hand to feel his breathing. It was as faint as a tactile hallucination, like a breeze in the silent night. Maybe it was the breeze of humid air and not the faint breathing of his prisoner?
That thought led him to put his hand on Lloyd's chest, slightly to the left, to feel his heartbeat. He felt nothing.
Panic grasped at him as he scrambled to the ninja's side and grabbed his left arm in order to find his pulse. Only a spinjitzu master could find what he was looking for, the prisoner wasn't supposed to die yet!
"Shit."
He was supposed to die by his hands, not by some terrible conditions or starvation! This was not supposed to happen! This--!
Relief flooded his entire being as he released a breath he didn't realize he was holding, didn't realize he even could take, when he felt the soft movement of blood under Lloyd's skin.
So, he wasn't dead after all. It wasn't over yet, the mission could continue.
"I knew it," Morro grumbled, a lie that only he could hear.
As he let go of the prisoner's wrist and was about to stand up, a hand grabbed his hand and jerked him back. The surprise and unsteady position Morro was in made him fall back on his butt.
A sudden heat made its way trough his body, an odd sensation after having only felt the cold for so long. When he realized that the source of the heat came from his hand, he turned his head to see Lloyd still sleeping peacefully, seemingly unaware of their intertwined hands.
Morro turned away, eyes shut tight and in a turmoil on whether or not to leave or to stay. Finally, he made his decision and spoke out loud, even though no-one was awake to hear it but himself. "You're lucky I still need you, or you wouldn't get away with this."
