It was the color of the void, of the midnight sky. The color of murky waters under dark and dull clouds. The color of your ink when you didn't want to use the blue ones, having used it more times than you can possibly count. The color of your clothes when you felt a little down, or the leather jacket you wore when you felt better. The very same color when dark thoughts came to haunt you, or when you've had your heart broken into thousands of pieces.
The color you see when death envelops you in its cold blanket.
