It was excruciatingly hot in the Sea of Sand, hot enough to fry an egg on the desert's dunes. But it was nothing some fans and ice couldn't do, so some were not deterred by the dry weather.

"Come on, my little blue bell! Take another steak, sweetheart!"

"Mom!"

"How about some ice cream? It's homemade!"

Jay's cheeks heated up as his mother yelled at her husband to get the ice cream from inside their trailer. "Um, sure, thanks."

The Walker family ate dinner outside with an awning made by the parents to protect them from the blazing sun. It wasn't often their son returned home, so every time he did they always made the most of it.

"Here we go!"

A bowl of pink ice cream dropped in the middle of the table. As they started to scoop up ice cream on their plates, a bark sounded from outside the junkyard.

"Was that a dog?" Ed asked out loud.

More barking ensued, and soon there was indeed a dog that had smelt the steak from wherever it was.

"Aww, how cute," Edna cooed.

"Hey there, buddy. You hungry?" Jay asked, holding out a generous piece for the dog with his fingers. The dog snatched it from his hand and started to tear and chew on the meat it was given.

"Hungry, isn't he? Wait, I think he's thirsty, too. Be right back."

As Jay's father left, the mother and son started petting the dog. The dog seemed to enjoy the attention.

"Have you run away from home?" Jay said to the dog while looking for a collar or an item with a name, but he found nothing that indicated that the dog had a master. "A stray, huh?"

"Poor dog. Give him another steak, it's not that we'll finish it anyway," Edna said as she scratched the dog under its chin.

His mother had anticipated that her son's friends would also make a visit, but it turned out that it was only him. She wasn't too bothered, but it would be a shame to let it go to waste.

Jay did as told, and they continued petting and cooing the dog until the father returned.
