"Shit."
One mistake and things could go south very quickly, Nya was well aware of that.
And yet, here she was, with the computer sprouting out gray gas, also known as smoke, and growled like an inhuman beast because Nya might have had been just slightly inattentive when assembling it and forgotten to replace the cooling system she was sent out to fix in the first place.
She turned off the main computer and groaned, rubbing her eyes. Maybe she shouldn't have sacrificed sleep last night in order to upgrade her samurai X mech. Not that she really had a choice. It was a secret after all, unless Kai had made a slip in less than two days.
She groaned again, this time out of irritation. She hadn't noticed someone walking into the bridge.
"Hi Nya! Is everything alright?"
Nya jumped at the sheer surprise and cursed the ninja for getting more silent after every practice. It was the point, of course, but it didn't give him the right to almost put her in cardiac arrest.
"Hi Jay! Everything's fine!"
Jay wasn't stupid enough to not know how a computer overheating looked like, and made a small grimace. "Are you sure? I-, uh, do you need help? I can help you! I'm-I'm not really busy-, uh..." Jay interrupted his own rambling, face red and he suddenly found his nails extremely interesting. He should trim them later, Jay noticed.
Nya, face down and praying that her short bob-cut hair was enough to cover her flushed expression, nodded curtly before kneeling down to the problem at hand. The damned system unit.
"Aren't these the new fans you bought two days ago?" he asked as he picked one of them up.
". . . yes." There was no denying it anymore; Nya fucked up and she hated every second of it. It wasn't even hard, just a stupid mistake on her part.
"Well, um, let's get to work!" Jay chirped, trying to brighten the mood. He opened the large case of the biggest computer on the Bounty and was greeted with a big puff of smoke in his face. He coughed and let his hands fly around, as if that would help him.
Nya grabbed a book from the table and tried to help him get rid of the smoke. "Why don't we have any newspapers here?"
"Maybe in the trashcan," Jay suggested between coughs. "Oh god, my eyes starts tearing up!"
She left his side, book in hand, and searched in the trashcan. Luckily, yesterday's news lay there among soda cans and candy wrappers.
After one minute of intense flapping, the air was clear.
"Okay, so, new fans," Jay repeated. Nya nodded in confirmation. "Alright, that shouldn't be too hard."
And it wasn't either.
Fifteen minutes of good co-operation, jokes and bad attempts at being smooth on Jay's side, and pleasant small talks, was all it took to make the main computer function properly again.
In reality, Nya could've done it on her own in half the time, but she enjoyed talking to him (more like listening on his funny rants and making comments if not trying to contain her laughter).
She looked forward to the next time they could spend time together.
