Whimsy floated around the treehouse, pacing and wondering. How was Geek? How were the others? Had they made it to Vailon yet? Did they have enough food? Did they need help? How was Geek? Wait, she'd already thought that. Whimsy's mind was a whirlpool of thoughts, questions, and worries. Geek said that he was feeling better when he came back, but she had seen right through that. Still, he hadn't really directly lied to her like that before, which meant it was something he didn't want her in on. She accepted that. It still filled her with worry and curiosity, but she tried moving on from it nonetheless. Charmeleon was staying with some relative in Tiny Town over on the other side of the Tundra Zone since his bar had been attacked.
Everyone in Brawlert was shocked. Whimsy felt exhausted, and really, really worried. Wait, she'd already said that too. This was getting ridiculous. She needed to just stop and think for a moment. Whimsy floated over to the desk and floated over the chair, looking down at the scarf of Skits. Whimsy closed her eyes and felt a sudden calm come over her. She was relaxed, steady, focused. A stark contrast to what she had just been thinking. Whimsy opened her eyes and saw a shadow disappear behind her. She turned to look out the window and saw no one. Still, she was certain the shadow had been from a Pokemon at the window. Whimsy shrugged it off. It was probably nothing. She was just getting excited again. Excited in a bad way, not the good way.
There was a knock on the door. Curious, Whimsy moved to it and opened the door, making sure whoever was out there didn't have the ability to jump her. Standing at the door was a Dewott with cuts on his arms, bruises all over his body, and a really nasty sunburn from his head down. Whimsy opened the door fully and got one good look at the Pokemon.
"Tsunami!?" Whimsy exclaimed.
Tsunami raised his head slightly and gave Whimsy a pained smile, trying to act normal, "Sup... Whimsy..."
Tsunami dropped to the floor unconscious. Whimsy quickly moved him to the hammock and set him down, then pulled the covers over his legs. She grabbed bandages, items across the room, a few herbs and berries she'd collected for Geek earlier, and other things. She went to work, wrapping up the cuts, treating them first. Dealing with the bruise, giving him liquids. He was dehydrated and looked skinnier than when she'd first met him, although that could very well have been from the evolution that he'd undergone. Was that why he was injured? He evolved?
Or no. Had he evolved to fight someone? That seemed more probable. Whimsy threw the questions aside. She grabbed other healing items and applied the final few bandages and medical treatments to the Dewott before exasperatedly plopping on the floor. She wasn't mad, just tired and being pulled in so many directions of worry and helplessness. First there was Geek being Geek, now Geek was being chased by Pokemon stronger than him and his friends. Then Geek leaves to go to a land where a super power is so he can try and stop those evil Pokemon. Now, one of Geek's friends not only evolved, but is seriously injured and still on the Mainland.
Did Geek and his other friends escape? Did they get to Vailon or whatever it was called? Did they get captured? Were Geek and his friends about to start attacking places left and right like the Pokemon before them? Whimsy let out a groan as she slumped over, letting his exhaustion show. She looked up above herself to the corner of the room. She looked specifically at the green and black scarf on the wall mount. She looked right at it and waited, like something was supposed to happen. Nothing did, just as she expected, but still, something urged her to keep looking at the scarf. It was as if something was pulling her towards it. Whimsy heard whispers in her head again, the same ones as when she'd touched the scarf before. Except this time, they were different.
They were calling out her name. The scarf was calling her specifically, which sent chills up Whimsy's spine. She floated up to eye level with the scarf and moved closer, enticed to touch the scarf. She observed it closely, seeing minor movements in the scarf, through the pattern of green and black. The scarf was losing color, fading ever so slightly. Whimsy reached out and touched the scarf. Instantly she was transported through her mind, seeing her own memories flow by. Then, she started seeing other things, but not just seeing, living them.
She saw Volt and the others, all floating helplessly in a dark void of nothing. She saw Tapu Koko, a Legendary Pokemon from Alola chasing her. She saw Volt and herself fighting three Haunter in a strange ruin with their glowing scarves. She saw a waterfall and a peaceful area of land in the middle of a forest. Then, bursting from the bushes, was Skits, bringing with her a Pikachu doll. Behind her was an Onix, big and menacing. She guarded Skits and stared down the Onix. Then Whimsy got a good look at herself and realized that, in fact, she wasn't herself. She was a Riolu, but not just any Riolu. The reflection in the water rippled by and revealed Geek's face where her's should have been. These were Geek's memories.
Then she woke up on the floor of the treehouse. The scarf was still on the shelf above, but it looked more vibrant now, more energized. Whimsy herself, however, felt weak and drained. She felt careless, like nothing mattered, and she had a strong urge to sleep. Whimsy floated up, hands on her head, shaking it. The thoughts and weak feelings soon passed. Whimsy looked back to the scarf and noticed again the vibrant glow of the scarf. Whimsy's eyes shrank and her jaw dropped. She had just found out why Geek was so weak and tired.
Wave had said something about Geek not using the scarf because it hadn't saved Skits. Whimsy wondered what he'd meant by that until she remembered what Geek said about the scarf. He'd said that, when he was fighting Wraith with Volt, they both used the scarves to protect themselves against his Draining Pulse and Draining Sphere attacks. He thought that the scarf would do what it did to him and Volt, energize them, to Skits. When it didn't, he threw it away. Whimsy realized why it hadn't. Since there was no Wraith, there was no use for the scarf. It was a weapon made by the Legendaries, made for heroes like Geek to stop Wraith. Something like that couldn't have just been conjured up right before Geek and Volt arrived. Pokemon before Geek and Volt had stopped Wraith before, but disappeared soon after, all of them besides Auroras and Drew who hadn't used the same scarves.
How had the scarves gotten so much power? How were they able to power such Pokemon like Geek and Volt? Whimsy answered herself. Because the scarf used the power of the previous Pokemon. The Pokemon who had used the scarves before were fueled with power, then drained once their job was done. The power was then transferred to the next Pokemon who used it. Whimsy's jaw gaped open. The reason Volt hadn't been affected was because he had taken it off quite sooner than Geek. The reason Geek was still being affected by the scarf was because of his aura. His aura and human side mixing forced his body to permanently link with the scarf.
There was no way to stop the draining unless you shattered the link with another power source. The Evo Orb, as Whimsy recalled their group talking about, was that other power source. That meant that Geek was, in all truthfulness, dying. Whimsy fluttered down into the chair in front of Skits scarf, awestruck by her discovery. Geek hadn't said anything because he was dying. Whimsy understood now. She was still upset that he hadn't told her, but she understood. She flew back up and grabbed the scarf. She felt her energy leaving quickly, and the scarf grew brighter and brighter by the minute. Whimsy flew to the window and lifted the scarf into the air, then threw it out the window, allowing the wind to catch it.
Whimsy watched happily as the scarf fluttered in the wind, heading right for the Extinction Zone. Hopefully it would get burnt up or destroyed for good. That thing had once been the saviour, but was now nothing more than an enemy to all. Whimsy sighed as she felt her energy slowly, slowly return to her. She sat back down, looking right at Skits' scarf. Whimsy leaned in and picked it up, then held it to her eyesight. She looked back at Tsunami, who was still asleep on the hammock. She turned and looked out the window towards the sky.
"I'm sorry Geek. I'm sorry Skits. But at least now," Whimsy looked to Skits' scarf, "at least now you've been avenged."
