Today I decided to invite Niall to my apartment for dinner. I didn't have anything else to do, and I know he likes food. Despite the fact it's the middle of winter and there is a blizzard on it's way, he agrees to coming over.
I found that really sweet of him. I had trouble deciding what to make. I decided to make soup because of the cold weather. I just really hope he likes it and finds it good. He likes just about anything anyway. I sometimes wonder how can he eat so much.
I heard a knock from the door and opened it revealing Niall with some flowers. "Hey Jodie, these are for you," he says holding them out to me.
"Aw, thank you Niall!" I say to him. "But how are you able to get flowers during the winter time?"
He laughs, "That's nothing to be concerned about right now. Is the food done? I am really hungry because I didn't eat much. I know your found will be delicious." I notice he has changed the subject. I look around for a vase and fill it with water. Niall closes the door behind him and walks to the kitchen, looking at what I made.
I place the flowers in the vase and put them in the middle of the table we will be eating at in a few minutes. "Only a few minutes left. You can go watch TV," I offer him while getting two bowls to put the soup in for us.
"Fine," he says and grabs the remote. He sits on the couch and looks at what is on. Probably nothing that good.
This gives me more space to get ready. I carefully pour soup into the bowls and set them on the table. "Niall!" I call, letting him know the food is done. He wastes no time getting up and going to where the food is. I honestly think that is the only reason he came here.
It was a good thing the TV was on because if not, it would have been very awkward. "Jodie, this is good."
"Thank you," I say to him. He cleans up the bowl and stands up. Right when he did, the room went dark. I look to the TV and it was off. "What did you do?" I asked him and stood up to look for my flashlight. I set it somewhere by the sink. The light switch was still on, the power must have went out because of the blizzard.
"I didn't do anything," he says.
I find the flashlight and turn it on. "It'll probably come back on in a few minutes," I tell him.
~ Two hours later ~
"I thought you said the power would be on soon," Niall complains, sounding angry.
I can't predict these things, I wanted to tell him but didn't. I shrug my shoulders. "It's getting cold," I tell him.
"Maybe I could call Liam. He might know what to do," Niall suggests and gets his cellphone.
I stand up and get a blanket. I can't take this cold anymore. Trying not to trip over anything that might be in the way, I go to the closet and get a spare blanket. I sit back down on the couch and hear Niall talking.
"Liam, the heating is out. What do we do?" he asked sounding desperate, like the world will shortly end. I couldn't help but to laugh at what he is saying.
A few minutes later Niall sits next to me and says, "He is having the same problem." Well this is just great.
Sitting here in the dark was very boring. I didn't know what else to do, but I could feel my eyes wanting to close and get some sleep. I couldn't stay awake any longer and fell asleep, hoping the heat will be back on tomorrow.
