Yang held tightly against the pillar. She saw the marble fragments popping off as bullets continuously rammed into them. Her face was glistening in sweat. She looked over to her right to see Sam pressing against the other pillar. Yang felt for her pistol and pulled it out of the holster. She opened the clip and saw the amount of bullets she had left. Seven. She put the clip back in and sighed. "Only seven bullets. Not enough and there's no way I'm hitting every single one of them." Yang yelled. Sam grumbled and looked to her side. Her radio was missing. She felt around her sides and peaked around the pillar a little. The radio was sitting on the bench they were on. Sam punched the pillar softly. "Dammit." she growled. "We can't call for help. The radio is on the bench." Sam yelled. Yang looked at the bench and immediately ducked back before a bullet killed her. "We'll figure a way out."
The bullets stopped.
Sam looked at Yang and they both held their breath. Nothing but silence. Until, Wally spoke up with a loud voice. "So what's it gonna be!?" he yelled. "If you surrender now we won't kill you guys. We just want Dexter, Samantha, Tinley, Aaron, and Blaise. If you give us them we will consider not taking you over." Wally yelled. Yang looked at Sam and smiled. "I'm not giving you up." she said quietly. "You've known me for a day. Why are you doing this?" Sam asked. "For one, I don't want to think about what he'll do to you guys," she said. "Second of all, I can tell you guys will bring good things to this community. We will fight back." Yang said.
"Go to hell, Wally!" Yang yelled. The silence resumed. "I thought you'd say that!" he yelled.
In a moment's notice, a white light flickered from behind the pillars. The thunderous and earth shaking boom rattled the Recreational Hall. It stopped as quickly as it started. Sam and Yang both jumped out from behind the pillars to see a horrendous sight.
A few panels of the giant wall were gone. Nothing but scraps of metal and wood. They laid on the ground, burning. Wally stood from behind the broken wall. He stood on top of a grey semi-truck. He had his four people standing with riot shields in front of Wally. They took the riot shields down and smiled evilly. Wally put both his hands up. "Thank you for your hospitality, Veronica McKenna! Our place thanks you. We present you with a parting gift!" he yelled. He stomped on top of the semi-truck and got on his knees. Two of his men walked to the rear of the truck and pulled a latch. The back of the trailer opened up and fifteen roamers stood in it. They all scrambled out of the trailer and looked up to Wally. They extended their hands as they tried to grab a hold of their meal. Wally patted the trailer and it began to drive off.
"Shoot! Shoot him!" Sam yelled pointing. Yang unholstered her gun and aimed it at the speeding semi-truck. Wally's men instantly formed a riot shield barricade. The bullets barely scratched the shields and the semi-truck vanished into the forest.
"He gave us roamers?" Yang asked. More roamers began to flood into the walls. Some had gathered during the gun fight and some had previously gathered when Dex fired off the round at Wally but missed. Roamers piled into the safe zone, rounding near the thirties. Some residents quickly ran out of their homes with machetes or other tools. They looked at Yang and pointed to the roamers. "We'll take them out." one of them said. Yang nodded. "You do that, Lenny." she said nervously.
The group of three withdrew the machete, the knife, and a police nightstick. They cautiously smashed and slashed at the approaching roamers. One of the roamers grabbed a hold of one of the fighters, but the other two killed it before it bit. The three men smiled. The job was getting easier and easier. They had killed about nine until something else happened.
A roamer suddenly was engulfed in flames. It blew up and bone shrapnel lodged into the men. It pierced their skin and stuck inside them. They all were knocked down by the explosion but stayed down from the heat and shrapnel. They groaned and screamed until the remaining roamers bent over to have some breakfast.
Yang and Sam covered their mouths in shock. Sam sprinted towards the bench and picked up the radio. She held the button and spoke into it quickly. "Wally escaped! He blew up part of the south wall and let in roamers. Some of these roamers have hidden C4 in them! I repeat! Wally has weaponized the roamers!" Sam yelled backing up.
She instantly got a reply. "Are you by the Recreational Hall!?" Phon yelled. "Yes! I am! Yes!" Sam yelled watching the roamers slowly creep towards them.
In a matter of seconds, Ken and Phon came bounding from behind a house. They sprinted, arms flailing up and down, towards Sam and Yang. Phon hugged Yang and then quickly let go. They looked at the small horde of nearly forty roamers. Ken unsheathed his knife and began walking towards the horde. Yang quickly jerked on his collar and pulled him back.
"Did you not hear me!? He weaponized the roamers! Some of them have explosives in them! He let out fifteen! Only one has blown up." Yang yelled. Ken spun around and stared at Yang. "Well, which ones have the explosives in them!?" he yelled. Yang shrugged her shoulders viciously and crossed her arms. "We can't go near them!" she yelled. Ken turned to look back at the growing herd of the monsters.
"This must've been his plan. Make us waste bullets." Ken said rubbing his chin. "What the hell does that have to do with anything?" Sam asked. "Think about it. He'd know we would just kill any ordinary roamers with knives or something else. If he knew he hid roamers with explosives in them then he'd use them to his advantage. Now we can't risk getting too close, not because of getting bit, but because of the risk of being blown to a fiery pile of ashes." Ken said.
"Smartass." Phon said putting her head on his shoulder. Yang scoffed. "Then what're we gonna do? Make slingshots?" "No, those wouldn't have as much effectiveness as bullets." Ken said. Sam gasped. "If he wants us to waste bullets then that means he is planning something else to. Something we won't be able to stop without bullets!" Everyone's face got pale.
"Duck!" someone screeched from behind them. Ken jerked behind him only to get tackled to the ground by Phon. Sam and Yang both dropped to the pavement and covered their heads. They heard a machine roaring from behind them. It sounded like a dragon that was made of metal. The sound almost sounded like gunfire.
The sound stopped and the four raised their heads up. They looked behind them but no one was there. Phon looked up and pointed at the roof. All of them glared up at the roof to see Theo and Katelyn sitting up there. Theo had mounted a minigun to the roof and it was smoking. Sam smiled unnoticeably at the corner of her mouth. Theo cheered and clapped. The four on the ground turned around to see bodies of dead roamers in the streets. The had so many bullet holes it looked like red Swiss cheese.
"Thank you, Theo old boy." Ken laughed. Ken raised to his feet and grabbed onto Phon's hand. He pulled her up. Sam and Yang stood up and put their hands at their sides. Theo looked down on Sam and he smiled. "I can be a jackass but I can pull through as well." Theo yelled from the house roof. "Don't forget this hoe is mine!" Katelyn yelled scooting closer to him. Sam looked at Yang. "You see it too?" she asked. Yang nodded. "Dex is just the improved Theo and Tinley is the improved Katelyn." she said quietly. Sam nodded. "Yes."
