It's A Little Bit Funny

"DAWN!"

"WAKE UP!"

My eyes flew open. We weren't on the road anymore.
Instead we were parked next to a large building with many cars parked outside. I blinked hard.
"Where are we?" I immediately asked. My mind was throbbing from the memory I just had.

"This is the Salvatore Boarding House. It's kinda like a school for special kids" Hope said.

"A school for special kids? What do you mean by special?" I scoffed. I assumed this was one of those 'special needs' schools and to be honest I was kind of offended that she brought me here.

"Special like you. Me. And all the kids that come here," she began. "You see Dawn, I'm a witch. A Mikaelson Witch."

"Mikaelson?" I questioned. That name sounded so familiar. Almost too familiar.

"Yeah. They're a very powerful family," Hope replied her mind becoming distant.

"Um okay," I answered. For some reason what she said didn't scare me at all. It actually felt... normal.

She looked at me, "And I have a feeling that you are not normal. Come."

She opened the door and got out. It took me a minute to figure out how to open the door and then we walked towards the entrance of this school.

As we walked in, we were greeted by tons of children- all different ages. As we waded through, I caught a glimpse of a young girl's eyes flicker between brown and a stark yellow, and I tried to ignore the fact that two kids were levitating next to a door. Hope grabbed my hand and led me to some room.

A young, blonde lady and possibly late-40's man were discussing something very seriously. As we walked in, the lady stood up immediately to hug Hope.

"Hope! You're back! How was New Orleans?" She grinned. She was very young but I got the feeling that she wasn't human.

"It was great, Caroline. I think I might know a way to get my family back. And I think it has to do with someone..." she trailed off.

Caroline looked at me. "What's your name, dear?" she asked politely.

"My name's Dawn." I replied softly. Caroline smiled at the name.

"Wow that's a lovely name. Isn't it Ric?" she turned to the man.

"Yes really lovely," he smiled. "I'm Alaric Saltzman. You can call me Ric or even Mr Ric if you're considering entering this school. We are here only to help."

I think they expected a reply from me but I had no idea what to say. My instincts told me to say no because why should I even trust these people but then I really didn't have anywhere else to go and Hope seemed genuine enough.

"Actually I would love to join this school. If it helps me figure out what I am then sure why not?" I answered. Caroline stared at me.

"What do you mean you don't know what you are?" She whispered.

"Um.. I don't know. I woke up in a box in New... Orleans?" I looked at Hope to see if I said it correctly. "I have no memories whatsoever but for some reason my instincts tell me to stay away from skin to skin contact."

Alaric sat down, rubbing his chin. "Interesting" he muttered.

Caroline stared at me, "Really? Hmm. Maybe we should call for backup?"

Alaric shook his head, "No not just yet."

"Well then there's only one place where we can find the answers and that is the utterly boring library we just opened," Caroline rolled her eyes.

"Alright then let's go," Hope urged.

The library was humongous. I don't think I would categorize myself as a book person but it was still amazing.
We sat down at a rectangular oak table and Alaric and Caroline went to fetch some books.
Hope was on a call with someone using this amazing device which can allow you to call someone, take pictures and even play games.

After she was done I had to ask, "Am I the key to bringing your family home?"

She seemed taken aback by my question.

"Well... yeah... actually, you see my family has been forced to split because of some ancient spirit hell bent on possessing my body so I was thinking..." but she was cut off as two young boys walked in the library and one shouted, "HOPE!"

Everyone immediately shushed him and he just rolled his eyes. They hugged Hope and sat down with us.

"Hey you got a new friend? Thank god, I was worried that you were gonna be alone all year," one of them joked. He had light chocolate skin, tight brown curls and a very mischievous smile. Hope just rolled her eyes, blushing slightly.

"Guys this is Dawn," Hope introduced. I smiled politely at them.

"I'm Noah," said one of them. He had cropped black hair and a very defined jawline. His green eyes sparkled when he looked at me.

"Nice to meet you Noah," I replied. He smiled back at me.

"I'm Ink and yeah it's not my real name but who the hell cares?" He offered his hand to shake but I really couldn't. Hope saw and came to my rescue.

"Well guys we're waiting for Caroline and Mr Ric to bring us some books if you wanna read with us," Hope said.

"Why do you want to read?" Ink scoffed.

"Well we're trying to find out what the hell I am," I interrupted. Both heads instantly snapped towards me.

"You don't know what your supernatural being is?" Ink barged.

"I have no clue," I answered truthfully.

"Well that's a new one," said Noah. He looked at me carefully, sort of like examining me.

"If you don't mind me asking, what are you?" I asked Noah.

Just as he was about to answer me, Ink barged in saying, "Well I'm glad you asked because usually not many people do. I'm a Malreux werewolf, meaning that I'm very special since I'm the last of my kind and my buddy Noah got lucky. He's a Heretic."

"And a Heretic?" I said confusedly. "What's that?"

"I'm originally a Siphoner witch turned into a vampire, meaning I have constant magic on my hands," Noah explained. I turned towards Ink.

"And a werewolf? That's sound pretty amazing," I said in awe.

"It is except when you have to turn every full moon... and when some people are trying to hunt you down cause you are so famously rare," he complained. Hope smiled at him.

"Oh yeah that," I giggled. Suddenly there was a thump on the table as Caroline dumped a load of dusty books.

"Oh goody more people, looks like Mr Ric and I don't have to stay," she squealed.

"Actually Miss Care..." Ink began and Caroline immediately cut him off.

She was halfway out of the library with Mr Ric when she said, "Thanks so much guys! Report to me afterwards!"

"Well let's get to reading," Ink fussed.
