Agent Carter stood, looking at us with a slight pitiful glance.
"Hello Steve, Freya," she greeted.
"Agent Carter," I stood up to grab her hand in welcome.
"Oh please Freya. Just call me Peggy," she started, "I just wanted to say that I admire you for standing up to the Colonel. I'm usually all for respect, but you were just outstanding," she gushed with an enthusiastic smile, "Really. I love how you stood up for Steve and wouldn't take any crap from the Colonel. And when you stopped him from slapping you! That was amazing!"
"Thank you Ag-Peggy," I smiled.
"Sorry to interrupt you ladies, but what are you doing here?" Steve cut in.
"Oh," Peggy blushed, "Officially I'm not here at all. That was quite a performance," she chuckled.
"Yeah, usually we're uses to more...twelve year olds."
I scoffed, "Yeah and at least they show a little respect."
"I know the struggle Freya," she said with a frown," but I understand you're 'America's New Hope'?" she said turning her attention back to Steve.
"Well bond sales take a ten percent bump in every state I visit."
Peggy sat down next to us, "Is that the senator I hear?"
Steve sighed deeply, running his hands through his hair. "At least he's got me doing this. Phillips would have had me stuck in a lab."
"And these are your only two options? A lab rat or a dancing monkey? You were meant for more than this, you know? For Christ's sake! You're the first ever successful super soldier! And Freya! I've seen you take on more than what's possible for the normal man, yet you find yourself dancing alongside all these bimbos in a short scraggy dress!"
Yeah, well we don't exactly have any more options.
"You know," Steve started, "for the longest time I dreamed about coming overseas and being on the front lines. Serving my country. I finally get everything I wanted, and I'm wearing tights..."
He was cut off by a siren, and I stood to look at what the commotion was about.
"They look like they've been through hell," Steve said looking at the rude soldiers.
"Yes," Peggy frowned, "These men more than most. Schmidt sent out a force to Azzano. Two hundred men went up against him and less than fifty returned. Your audience contained what was left of the one-oh-seventh. The rest were killed or captured."
The one-oh-seventh?
Bucky
I looked at Steve with wide eyes and he returns my looked with eyes filled of concern.
"The one-oh-seventh?" Steve double checked with Peggy, "Come on!" he said, grabbing my arm and pulling me along quickly to a tent.
We just so happened to run into the tent that belonged to the Colonel.
"Well," he said with a glare, "If it isn't miss defy your superiors and the Star Spangled Man with a Plan. And what is your plan today?"
Who does the hell does this guy think he is? He cannot go around carrying on about me forever.
I opened my mouth, but quickly shut it when Steve gave my arm a squeeze.
"I need the casualty list from Azzano."
"You don't get to give me orders, son-"
"Please sir," I begged, "We just need one name."
"Sergeant James Barnes from the hundred and seventh."
