I should've been to the meeting on time. I wouldn't have been so shocked. I didn't expect the officer to be a guy. Especially one around my age.
"So, how long have you worked here?"
I jumped at the question. I didn't even realize how quiet is been, until he said that.
"Um.. About 10 years now." I told him. My face flushed as he chucked.
"You seem jumpy." He teased. I gave him a light glare, before I picked up my walking pace.
I didn't even notice we walked the whole first floor, until we were at the end of the public services hallway. "Let's head to the second floor." I suggested.
The bell rang, as soon as we got in the second floor. Students burst out of their classrooms, flooding into the hallway. I made my way over to the railing, that overlooked the entrance of the building.
It'd be bad if we got caught up in this chaos and- is that student wearing a blanket?! I'll have to let the administrators know of this new 'trend'.
"Are we just going to wait here?" Officer Goldak whined.
"Unless you want to get mowed over by careless teenagers, yes." I replied. Officer Goldak chuckled at my response.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I doubt they will knock me over." He mocked. I sent a glare to the taller man, then at the raging mob.
"Are you sure about that?" I challenged.
"Yes, I'm pretty certain." He smirked. We'll see about that. It's best to fear the crowd. I've seen plenty of teens get knocked over our shoved out of the way. I don't they would treat us any different.
"Alright then. Let's head to the media center, on the 3rd floor." I suggested. I weaved through the crowd, Goldak following closely behind. We began our walk up the stairs, when I noticed the students in front of us were pushing each other.
One of them feel back, into me. They regained their balance and kept going up. I, however, have never been very good at keeping balance.
My foot slipped off the step, and I felt myself start to fall back.
     "Careful!"
My back pressed against a solid chest as an arm circled my waist, stopping me from tumbling down the stairs. My heart jumped to my throat.
"Y-yeah." I stuttered, refusing to back look at him. My face felt like it was on fire. God, I hope he doesn't notice my blush.

I found my footing, and quickly finished climbing the stairs. We made it to the 3rd floor by the time the bell rang. A few stranglers were running late to class.

"You weren't kidding about those kids. That was brutal." The officer said, trying to save what pride I had left.

"Yeah. I told you." I agreed, playing along. I gave him a small smile. I went to continue walking, when I noticed the officer was looking somewhere else. I looked in the direction he was facing.

One student was standing by the wall, where the class numbers were posted next to the numbers. "Am I on the wrong floor?" I heard them mutter. How did they get lost? It's already the second week of school! "Hm.." They looked back and forth, trying to figure out where she was.

"Is that girl lost?" Officer Grooms chuckled.

"It appears that way." I sighed.

     "Should we help her?"

"Let's see if she asks for help, first." I said. Officer Goldak looked at me surprised, before he smirked, shaking his head. Did I say something?

The girl looked around, spotting us. She glanced at the paper and then at me, then at the officer. She turned away, heading down the stairs. Don't tell me... she's afraid of Officer Goldak? As funny as that is, it makes me wonder why.

"So, the media center?" Goldak reminded me.

"Right." I nodded, heading towards the room. "This way."

When we entered the media center, only to be blinded by the great glass windows that lined the walls. A few students were scattered about, either reading or sitting at computers.

      "Whoa."

I turned to see Goldak looking at the ceiling-high windows.

"This is the media center. It's mostly used during success period." I informed him.

"These windows are huge! I bet that saves a ton on electricity." He grinned. The librarian looked up from her seat, shushing him. He waved an apology, before whispering "Are these the same windows in the commons?"

"Yeah. They fill the wall. You can see it from outside." I smiled. He looked down at me, with a happy face.

"Can you show me?" He asked. I paused, unsure. His smile faded into a smirk. "You have to show me around, right?"

"....I suppose I could." I sighed, agreeing to his idea.

      Although.. I don't think I'm suppose to.
