I woke up when the alarm from my cell phone went off.

It has one of those alarms you would hear at your school whenever you have an earthquake drill. My sister has complained about it saying it's “too noisy,” or telling me “you should change it. I need my beauty sleep.” I just laugh at her when she says those things. She really thinks too much of herself. I believe she gets it from my brother. He thinks he’s cool! In his dreams.

I turn off my alarm and just in time my sister bangs on my door and yells, “Turn it off!”

It’s about 7:30 AM and apparently too early for my sister to wake up.

I get up and get a pair of faded jeans and my green shirt with the Farmers Market logo on it and headed for the bathroom to take a quick shower.

I’ve volunteered at the Farmers Market for a couple of months and I really enjoy it. Most people my age don’t like volunteering because they think it’s a waste of time and it's no fun. I enjoy it because I meet new people every day and I’ve made a couple of friends there.

The advisor from a club at school told me about it and I decided to do it last summer break. It’s held on Saturdays by the beach. It’s near my house and I had nothing to do over the summer since most of my friends went to visit their families.

When I finished drying my hair I put on my faded black Vans and went to the kitchen to find something to eat before my mother got up and started to complain about me doing volunteer work. As much as I like to volunteer my mother doesn’t see the point of the things that I do. Today my luck was not with me and I found my mother in the kitchen starting to make pancakes.

“Great you’re up,” she said with a smile on her face, “I was wondering if you wanted to do anything today after breakfast?”

“You know I always go to the Market on Saturdays.”

“Yeah, but when was the last time we did something together?” she asked while flipping pancakes.

“Well maybe after I get back.”

“Why don’t you skip today? That way we have more time.” she said with a smile.

“I can’t. I told Zoey I would help out today.” I smiled back at her.

“Well what am I supposed to do while you’re gone?”

I could tell she was getting annoyed.

“You can hang out with Winter. I don’t think she has any plans today. You can take her to the movies.”

“It’s not fun when you’re not there.” I can’t believe she’s acting like this!

“Well I think you two should hang out more together. Have some mother-daughter bonding time.” I told her while putting a pancake on my plate and went to sit on the table.

Just as I sat my brother, sister, and dad came into the kitchen.

“Yes pancakes!” my brother yelled with a smile on his face while my father sat down and my sister went to the fridge to grab some milk.

Soon we were all sitting eating pancakes.

My sister and brother started to fight over who got the syrup first. There’s a lot of fighting in my house lately. I tried to eat my food fast so I wouldn’t have to listen to these two fight.

“Are you going to the Market today?” my father asked me.

“Yeah, I want to get there early to help set up.” I said while drinking my orange juice.
