Chapter 11: Difficulties...

The quiet hum of the elevator stopped the dead silence between the trio. Ume was thinking about the situation she had come across while out with her two daughters, Yuzu and Mei didn't say a word, they were too ashamed after being caught.

"I want you, girls, to go into your room, I'll call you both out once I have made up my mind" Ume stated keeping her back to the duo, Yuzu went to speak up but Ume's body language stopped her in her tracks. Ume didn't like being like this, she enjoyed being a friend to these two but the shock had her in a position where she couldn't mess around, she needed to handle this like an adult. Once inside the apartment, Mei and Yuzu went into their bedroom while Ume went to the kitchen to retrieve a drink for herself.

after grabbing herself a beer Ume sat down on the couch, she took a few sips and began to think about the whole situation.

As Yuzu flopped into bed, Mei could notice her fear and anxiety with ease, she sat beside Yuzu and stroked her hair gently.

"Hey... don't be so afraid... she is just shocked by what she saw" Mei spoke softly as she played with Yuzu's hair, Yuzu was almost on the verge of tears, she didn't ever want to lose Mei but she knew it could be a possibility.

"Don't you get it, Mei?" Yuzu looked up at her lover with teary eyes "I have already lost you once... I wasn't myself after that. I can't lose you again..." Yuzu quietly sobbed as she curled up to Mei, Mei was aware of Yuzu's effort, it was one of her defining features. she was determined to make others happy no matter what.

"I know you can't, you won't lose me fully, I will always be here for you" Mei admitted in hopes that it'd help ease Yuzu's mind, Yuzu looked up at Mei, she observed Mei's face before nodding faintly trying her hardest to believe her, she really loved Mei and how she was willing to try. Mei had to calm Yuzu down in one way or another, so she did exactly what Yuzu did when she gave Mei her ring, Mei leant down and placed a soft kiss on each of Yuzu's eyelids. Yuzu's tears stopped long enough for Mei to wipe them away and place a soft kiss on her lips.

the apartment fell quiet, you could almost hear the neighbours planning tonight's dinner together, Mei could hear Yuzu's heart beating clearly as she continued to stroke her hair to keep her calm.

"Mei... Yuzu..." Ume called out to them both, they emerged from the bedroom slowly and went to the living room. "Sit down please" they complied and sat across from her, their hands finding each other fairly quickly due to them being on edge. there was silence before Ume spoke again.

"after giving it a lot of thought... I decided I would see how you both felt as sometimes couples can start out of desperation" Ume stated as she looked at the two, Mei shuffled slightly in her seat before looking at Ume.

"Mother... Yuzu and I have been in a relationship since a school trip to Kyoto, where we visited a relationship shrine... It all happened so suddenly but from the moment Yuzu helped me with my father, I had slowly been falling for her. when she confessed her love to me at the shrine, I realised there was no point in fighting, I had to let my heart take over" Mei told Ume, allowing herself a moment to breathe before continuing "Then my grandfather found me a suitor and pushed me to get engaged to him, even though I wanted Yuzu. that is why I ran away for the week... I left because it was the life I thought I wanted" Mei pouted as she gripped onto Yuzu's hand "But in all honesty... the life I want is one I can spend with Yuzu" Mei had spilt her heart out to Ume completely taking her by surprise, she hadn't expected this, she expected a quick desperate fling that had them both wanting more, but this was serious. they had really fallen in love with each other.

Ume crossed her arms as she gazed at the two, Yuzu was playing with Mei's hand gently as she fought back tears. Her daughter rarely got emotional over people, the last time Yuzu got like this with anyone was with her father when he passed. Ume thought about it long and hard, truly appreciating the love they had for each other.

"even though I am a little uneasy due to the fact you are sisters. Admittedly not biological, but you know... it is still taboo" Ume confessed, she rubbed her arm knowing the girls won't be too happy with her for getting them both so worked up over this. "I will still support you both, no matter what though. you are my girls"

Yuzu and Mei looked at each other before going to give Ume a tight forgiving hug, they knew she was mostly annoyed due to the shock of it all, now she is slowly accepting they were feeling better about the situation, they held each other close, but as they did. Yuzu's mind began to wander...
