Chapter 5: Why...?

Rapid heartbeats and hushed, excited panting filled the air as their eyes remained locked on one another, Mei desired Yuzu but wasn't going to force her to do anything she didn't wish too. Yuzu didn't say another word, she simply looked into Mei's eyes, having never realised they were this beautiful.

"I love you too, Yuzu..." Mei spoke softly, clearly very certain with her feelings. As they looked at each other, there was a tapping on the door.

"Girls... are you ok in there? I heard a thud" Ume called into the room. Yuzu couldn't help but blush, she didn't think Mei was that rough with her, Mei covered her mouth gently.

"We are fine, Mother. Just tripped" Mei lied before she leant in and placed tender, sweet kisses on Yuzu's neck.

Yuzu tried her best to keep quiet as her mother went back to the living room, Yuzu really didn't wanna be caught like this, especially with her stepsister. When they were in the clear Yuzu shoved Mei away from her so she could catch her breath.

"M...Mei... why...?" Yuzu panted as she kept her back to the wall, Mei let out a soft sigh as she sat down on their bed.

"I realised that I do love you. while being away from you, everything has felt so lifeless and without joy. I miss walking to school with you and just spending my nights alone with you" Mei admitted, hugging her knees to her chest, she didn't want Yuzu to feel overwhelmed so she stopped herself from continuing. 

"Mei... I... I don't know what to say... how can I be sure you won't just leave...?" Yuzu looked at Mei, after being hurt already, it left her cautious of everything Mei did, she did love her, but fear took control.

Mei stood up and extended her hand to her lover, Yuzu observed her gentle hand and saw the ring, the one she had given her a month before she left home. Yuzu couldn't help but slowly close her eyes so she could think, she took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly.

"Yuzu, you are single-handedly the most important person in my life... You have no idea how much you have aided me, how much I have come out of my shell because of your gentle shoves." Mei stated as she looked at her, Yuzu opened her eyes gently and their eyes met again.

"Am I really that important...?" Yuzu was in disbelief, she had helped Mei but never realised that Mei appreciated her efforts.

Mei turned her hand, palm facing skywards. she beckoned Yuzu closer with the tips of her fingers, Yuzu swallowed the lump in her throat and approached her as she bit her lip softly. Mei noticed her biting her lip and tried to recall some of the flirtatious statements she had researched to help make the relationship feel real.

"Hey..." Mei started, she gently cupped Yuzu's cheek and caressed her bottom lip with her thumb in a tender and teasing way. "Only I should be biting your lip" a soft grin emerged on her face as Yuzu began to blush like crazy, she stopped biting her lip and looked down quickly.

"Mei! Oh my gosh!" Yuzu was honestly surprised that she had come out with that, but couldn't help but giggle inside, she found it funny hearing Mei say something like that.

Yuzu closed the gap completely, Mei instinctively wrapped her arms around her carefully. not a word was spoken, both of them enjoying the quiet, loving embrace they were in. Yuzu closed her eyes and snaked her arms around Mei's waist, she was glad to have her sister and girlfriend home. she clung to her, determined to not let her leave again.

Mei kissed Yuzu's forehead gently, Yuzu blushed with a soft smile as she hid her face near her neck.

"Yuzu, will you do something for me?" Mei asked as she stroked Yuzu's hair, Yuzu responded with a soft nod as she pulled away slightly and looked up at Mei. "Kiss me" 

The level of assertion in Mei's voice had Yuzu almost shaking at the knees, she nodded and wrapped her arms around her neck slowly as she leant in for a kiss. Mei allowed a hand to explore Yuzu's lower back while the other cupped her cheek and guided the way.

As their lips met Yuzu felt a surge of excitement shoot through her, she pressed herself against Mei not minding how Mei would react. Mei simply gripped Yuzu's behind and forced her closer so there was not even an inch of space between them, Yuzu whined and whimpered under Mei's touch. no one had ever held her in such a way.

Before they could continue, Mei noticed their heartbeats had synced up, she smiled softly as she looked at Yuzu.

"You feel it too?" Yuzu asked with a sweet blush that always brought attention to her beautiful green eyes, Mei nodded as she looked at her, after exchanging glances Yuzu pulled away from the embrace slowly. "I'm gonna go shopping with mama, do you wanna come?" she blushed, she knew it was out of the blue but they couldn't just stand and mentally strip each other all day. Mei shook her head gently.

"I think I'll stay home and clear up a bit for when you both return." Mei composed herself as she looked at Yuzu, Yuzu nodded in an understanding way. she stole a kiss and headed out to Ume leaving Mei on her own in the bedroom, Mei inhaled lightly to catch her breath but at the same time, accidentally catching a whiff of Yuzu's perfume. Ume poked her head into the room and looked at Mei.

"Hey, would you like anything from the Market?" this is the first full day Mei had been back, she wanted to make sure Mei had everything.

"Could you please buy me some more shampoo and conditioner, please? I ran out while I was at my grandfather's..." she looked over at Ume as she asked, she was very grateful that Ume had taken her in so happily, she really didn't deserve her as a mother.

"Of course, the horse oil stuff right?" she asked, Mei nodded which caused a faint smile from Ume, she left Mei to do her own thing as she and Yuzu set off for the market. Mei lay back in bed and looked at the ceiling, thoughts running through her mind. she blushed darkly as she had her first dirty thought about Yuzu, she quickly sat up and fanned herself to calm down. what was coming over her, was it the fact she hadn't been near Yuzu in a while or was this how people felt about their romantic partners? 

Mei stripped completely and went to the bathroom and enjoyed a nice bath on her own, taking her time to soak and wash. there was no need to rush, she had until Ume and Yuzu returned to do as she saw fit.

After her bath, she dried off, got dressed in a soft cotton t-shirt and some loose fitting trousers in which she felt comfortable lazing around in. she wandered around the house completing tasks and errands. once she had completed all of her tasks, she sat down on the couch and allowed herself a moment to think.

"I wonder how I can surprise Yuzu? she seems to be into romantic stuff, so maybe I can try a date again." Mei thought out loud before she pulled her phone out and began to plan. if she was going to take Yuzu out on a date, she wanted it to at least be memorable and fun. but where to go?

Mei scrolled through pointless attractions in her town till she noticed something, while it wasn't something big, it was public and it was romantic. a new restaurant had opened in town, Mei smiled softly to herself and bookmarked it. she looked out of the nearest window and sighed happily, maybe she would finally get this love thing and maybe she would be good with it, only time would tell...
