Yuzu sat in silence as her thoughts wandered, as she held her mother she couldn't help but wonder all the possibilities due to her mother accepting her relationship, she was aware of how taboo it was but she loved Mei, more than anyone else could. Ume noticed the lost in thought look on Yuzu's face and could tell something was on her mind, it could either be good or bad but with the current situation, it was probably a good though. Ume asked Mei if she could give them a moment, Mei complied and gently placed a kiss on Yuzu's forehead before leaving the room.
"Yuzu, is everything ok sweetie?" Ume asked, wanting to know if she was as ok as she looked. Yuzu nodded quietly before looking at her mom, waiting a moment before speaking.
"Mama... I know it is very sudden... but..." Yuzu was hesitant, she didn't know how her mother would react to the thought she just had.
"what is it?" Ume spoke in a compassionate way as she stroked her hair gently.
"How would you feel if I... wanted to marry Mei?" Yuzu blushed darkly as she looked down, she knew this could go one of two ways but she could only see the negative play out within her mind. Ume sat in silence as she thought about it, lesbian couples weren't allowed to marry in Japan. homosexuals had all the rights that straight people did, except the ability to marry.
"But how would yo-" Before Ume could finish her sentence Yuzu had interrupted.
"I uh... wanted to get married in another country... I've been saving up for a gift for Mei... but... maybe that could be my gift" Yuzu admitted quietly as she blushed, Ume was genuinely surprised that her daughter was this serious about it. Ume nodded and pondered for a moment.
"When did you plan to do this?" Ume questioned Yuzu a little bit.
"near Christmas time as then, it could be an early Christmas present to her from me..." Yuzu spoke gently growing more and more embarrassed by the idea of her mother reacting negatively. but Ume was for the most part surprised, Yuzu was following her heart, just how she had done when she met Sho. maybe that is what Yuzu was feeling, a deep connection to someone who was someone better beneath their rough exterior. it all slowly made sense to Ume, Mei had become so much more outgoing and friendly since the time they apparently started dating. Mei was so much like her father, she didn't need the academy to prove that. but one thing had popped up, one flaw in her plan.
"But... you are still too young to get married, you are 17. you would need to be 18 to get married" Ume stated, she didn't want to take away this happiness from Yuzu, but she needed to be realistic about things.
"Not if you are there..." Yuzu started, Ume looked at her confused "If you attend the ceremony along with Sh- papa... you both can give consent for either one of us to marry, once both of us have a guardian backing the marriage. we can legally be paired..." Yuzu rubbed her arm gently, she was more worried about how Sho would take it now that she thought about it. Ume was actually in awe, how long had Yuzu been planning this? she knew as much as she needed to if she needed to inform anyone, that was for sure.
"Where would you go?" Ume asked. if both parents had to be there, she wanted to know where they would go for it.
"Hawaii... the age of marriage with parental consent is 15..." Yuzu looked up at Ume hoping she wasn't too mad at her for throwing all this onto her so suddenly.
"well, if you are paying for the travel there for you, Me, Mei and Sho... we will both happily support you and plan the ceremony for you both..." Ume confessed, she knew she would be able to win Sho over EASILY he was a big softie for his family, as soon as Yuzu heard what Ume had said her head lifted itself almost as if she heard something out of the ordinary.
"W...wait... really? you mean that?" Yuzu was worried that Ume was just pulling her leg, Ume did love to joke around and mess with Yuzu sometimes, it is what made their mother/daughter relationship special as it was like a friendship. Ume nodded confirming her statement.
"You keep to your end of the bargain and we will help you both be happy, I promise" Ume smiled softly as she opened her arms for Yuzu, Yuzu lept at the opportunity and hugged her mother tightly, this was maybe one of the best moments of her life, she was lucky to have a mother like Ume, Ume was always very willing to support those she loved.
"Can we agree on one thing though?" Yuzu asked gently as she curled up in her mothers' arms, Ume nodded and asked what her request was. "We don't tell Mei till the dress' are the last problem on the bucket list" Yuzu had remembered how she and Mei went to a fake wedding photography service, Mei looked beautiful, she wanted to recapture that awe as they both tried on their dress' for the first time, she recalled Mei saying she was just kidding, but looking back on things now, she understood why. Mei didn't wish to get Yuzu's hopes up.
Ume nodded in agreement if Yuzu wanted it to be a surprise then so be it. she would make sure it was the best surprise Mei had ever expirienced...
