Her eyelids flickered open slowly to see the baren space by her side, where had Yuzu gone? Mei leant across and placed her hand upon the empty space in hopes it'd all just be a weird hallucination and Yuzu would reappear. that wasn't the case, Mei got out of bed before making sure her hygiene was in check, shortly after she got dressed and explored the cabin. it was just her, she looked around feeling relatively confused, where did everybody go? was all she could think as she entered every room to find people, with no luck. she thought they had all gone out until she heard some laughter coming from the patio. as she neared the sliding door, she peeked through to see Yuzu, Ume and Sho all sat around a circular table talking, she didn't want to eavesdrop but she wanted to let them know she was awake.
"Good morning" Mei spoke sleepily as she opened the door slowly, Yuzu was the first to beam in Mei's general direction before giving her a very pleasant good morning, Mei was happy that nothing was out of the ordinary. she proceeded to sit with everyone, her head resting on Yuzu's shoulder.
"That reminds me" Ume spoke "Mei, we are going to be hanging out today in town if that is ok with you" Ume stated as she smiled sweetly at Mei, Mei nodded and smiled back. completely unaware of what was in stock for her.
After a pleasant breakfast together and some regular conversation, Yuzu stole a kiss from Mei before she went off with Sho to 'Sort something out', It was shortly after that when Mei and Ume headed off to town to do their own thing, that was when Ume dropped the bombshell on her.
"Yuzu told us you accepted her proposal" Ume started, she looked at Mei with an approving smile "I'm so happy you said yes, otherwise... this holiday wouldn't be as special" Ume hinted, Mei's ears perked up, she knew eventually Yuzu would tell Ume, but what did she mean about the holiday being special?
"E...excuse me, Mama." Mei stammered slightly "B...but how do you mean by 'special'?" Mei asked she was actually very curious about the whole ordeal.
"I'm surprised it hasnt't clicked yet." Ume giggled softly "Why do you think your father and I haven't been around much this holiday?" Ume asked as she lead the way to the town. Mei thought really hard about it before shaking her head.
"Bonding? it isn't like you guys see each other often" Mei spoke in a soft tone, feeling a little bit wry about how she spoke to Ume. Ume couldn't help but laugh softly as she lead Mei to a nicely decorated area.
"Oh, Mei. so silly sometimes, we haven't been around as we have been planning... your wedding" Ume confessed, Mei tensed up as she looked around, it all made sense now. Yuzu wouldn't bring her here yesterday otherwise it would spoil the surprise they had for her.
Mei's heart began to flutter, there was no way in hell she could possibly pay Yuzu back for this. she was forever in her back pocket and her life.
As Ume and Mei prepared the young bride to be for her big day, Ume could sense what was going through Mei's head. she was worried she wouldn't be enough, that she didn't deserve Yuzu. her heart began to race with rational fear, Ume couldn't help but giggle as she hugged Mei from behind.
"My, my. I remember when I got cold feet marrying your father" Ume stated "He was sooo intimidating, but he quickly softened up for me" Ume kissed Mei on the cheek softly, Mei laughed softly knowing she wasn't the only one who had these rational thoughts made her heart calm down, she closed her eyes and nodded as she imagined how it would go. she wondered how Yuzu would look all dressed up. Mei's lips curled into a smile, she remembered how beautiful she looked in the wedding dress she tried on before Mei ran away from home.
Ume finished helping Mei put on her dress, Mei was grateful to have Ume helping her through this, she really didn't deserve a mother figure as caring for her. Mei looked into the mirror and took a deep breath, Sho entered the room and stopped dead in his tracks. he couldn't help but smile, his baby girl was all grown up now and was about to marry her girlfriend. Sho hooked her arm through his after Ume left the room, he gave Mei a soft kiss on the head before he lead her out to the altar where the priest was waiting with Yuzu and a few photographers. Mei blushed darkly as she held the bouquet close to her chest, she was blown away at how beautiful Yuzu looked at the end of the aisle waiting for her, Yuzu smiled happily as she began to tear up. the distance closed between them slowly, once Mei was by Yuzu's side, Yuzu raised Mei's veil to see how bad Mei was blushing, she couldn't help but smile happily.
the young couple stood face to face, their hearts being poured out to one another as they said their vows, Mei could've sworn she saw her father shed a tear for her. The young couple had zoned out but only heard the priest utter a sentence.
"Mei Aihara, do you take Yuzu to be your lawfully wedded wife?" He asked.
"I do" Mei spoke softly.
"Yuzu Okogi, do you take Mei to be your lawfully wedded wife?" He asked softly.
"I do" Yuzu spoke softly but surely.
"Then by the power vested in me, I know pronounce you: Wife and Wife. you may kiss the bride" He spoke with a soft smile. Mei blushed happily but closed her eyes as she leant in for the kiss, as her lips neared her target she felt something soft and fabricated touch her soft lips. she opened her eyes to see Yuzu was holding her small bear to her lips. exactly as Mei had done to her when they first started dating, a grin formed on Mei's lips before she gripped onto Yuzu's wrist, she pulled her closer but moved slightly to the side so she dipped her newlywed wife. The grin remained on Mei's lips as she leant in and kissed Yuzu, Yuzu giggled happily against her lips. her hand gently caressing Mei's cheek. Ume and Sho clapped happily as the photographers began to take pictures of the kissing couple, this was only the beginning of their lives together, they still had a long journey ahead of them...
The end...
