43 // Tell Me

As I walked through the door Tris gave me a sympathetic smile. I sat facing him at the table, the room was completely silent before he spoke.

"This is hard." He said rubbing the back of his neck, he looked everywhere but into my eyes, "I don't know how to begin."

"Tris." I say trying my hardest to force back the tears that were almost spilling down my cheek.

"...James is back." is all he says and I looked confusedly at him. He starts picking at his nails, what is he hiding from me?

"Why? He isn't suppose to be back until tomorrow." I was too confused, I took a sip of the coffee, my hand trembling.

"He's been back for 2 days..." Before I went to reply, he spoke. "They broke up." I almost choked on the coffee in my mouth, I swallowed it down and my mouth dropped open.

"W-what, why?" Is all I could bring myself to say.

"She cheated on him." He shrugged as if it wasn't a big thing. "..In front of him."

"Wow."

He began shifting uncomfortably in his seat and I knew there was one more thing he needed to tell me. By his actions, it couldn't be good.

"There's one more thing I kinda need to tell you." He Locked eyes with me and worry was written on his face.

"Tell me." I choked, a single tear slipped down my face. "Tris!"

without speaking he stood up and collected something out of a draw. It looked like a present or something like that. He sat back down and slid it to me slowly.

"W-what's this?" I couldn't hide my fear at all, my hands shaking as I gripped the brown package in my hand.

"Please Dais...Read it." His voice cracked at the end..Thats when I lost it. Tears streamed down my face, I imagined the worst possible thing ever and I tried to erase it out of my mind.

My hand slid over the brown paper packaging once more before slowly pulling the letter from the top.

A lump appeared in my throat as I read the front of the letter.
