I suddenly feel nervous. My palms are sweating and my mouth has gone dry. I blurt out suddenly "Don't tell Mom and Dad"

I know its a stupid thing to say since they are probably going to notice a strange horse when they do the morning chores.

"I wasn't going to" Hannah replies "I just came to watch the show"

  "What show?" I ask

"Really, are you serious? You don't call a strange horse that looks to be wild and then deciding to completely trust you a show?"

"I saw that horse when I walked to the creek. I guess she followed me here" I say as I sit down on the swing next to Hannah. For a while we don't talk.

We just listen to the sounds of the night until I start feeling groggy and then begin to fall asleep on the swing.

Hannah stands up abruptly and says "I'm going to go to bed." I follow her into the house and up the stairs. Before we split off to go to our seperate rooms I ask "Do you think Mom and Dad will make me give her back to where ever she came from?"

"I don't know" Hannah replies and then disappears into her room.

I walk into my room and flop onto the bed with my coat and boots still on. I fall asleep as soon as my eyes close.

Daisy wakes me a few hours later. She licks my face and noses me trying to convince me to wake up.

"Ok, ok" I tell her and sit up. Daisy gives me two short barks and a wag of her tail before dashing out the door.

I go to peer out the window and suddenly become aware of the sound of rain. Its pouring buckets outside.

I can't see anything except a few nearby trees. This is what is was like the day Hershey died, I think but I quickly push the thought from my mind.

I get dressed and stumble down the stairs into the kitchen to find my mom making a breakfast of eggs and toast."Good morning" Mom says as she turns to smile at me while she finishes up the eggs.

I sit down at the table and attempt to stay awake while mom comes over and sets a plate in front of me. "It is going to be a messy day!" She chirps and then a clap of thunder shakes the house.

"Yeah" I mumble and then begin to eat.

Hannah stumbles down the stairs a few minutes later and takes her seat at the table. She lays her head down and begins to dose. Mom gets Hannah to lift her head when she sets down a plate for her.

I finish my breakfast and take my plate over to the sink to rinse it off. My Dad then bursts through the door dripping wet.

Daisy and Boomer run at him and begin barking and wagging their tails like he had been gone for days instead of just a couple minutes.

My Dad laughs and pets them before takeing a seat at the table where mom has already put down his plate. "It's raining cats and dogs out there!" Dad says through a mouthful of toast. "I already took care of all the chores so you don't have to go outside"

"Thanks Dad" Hannah and I chorus

I trek back up to my room to finish a painting I had been working on. Of course its a horse.

I'm sort of am art freak as well as being horse crazy. I have tons of sketches of horses in my room ,some better than others. One is a picture of my Mom and Dad riding their horses just as the sun is setting.

Another is a colored pencil drawing of Hershey that I drew one day in art class. My throat closes up everytime I look at it.

My painting is three horses grazing in a pasture as the sun is setting. There are mountains in the background and I have spent days figuring out how to get the lighting just right.

I pick up the paint brush and begin adding shadows to a palomino mare. The paint glides across the canvas creating the illusion of realism.

I start on the sunset. The yellows, reds, oranges, and blues stretch across the sky covering it in their vibrant hues. I smile at my work.

I finish the picture with a few touch ups on the horses and add shadows to the grass and mountains. I sign my name and add the date and peer out the window.

    Of course it's still raining.
