The rain is a constant pounding that lasts through the night. I wake up to see the sun filtering through the window and the drops of rain dripping off the eaves and trees.

Excitement courses through me as I see that sunlight. I dress in record time and fly down the stairs and out the door before anyone can stop me.

The air is cool for summer and that's mostly due to the recent rain. I breath in and I feel relaxed and happy. Nothing could take this moment away from me.

I reach the pasture and hang on the fence for a second, scanning the pasture until I spot the mare grazing in the far corner.

I climb over the fence and leap. I land in the soft grass and jog towards the mare.

I slow to a walk as I near her and instinctively hold out my hand. The mare stretches her neck forward and accepts a small pat from me before going back to grazing.

"You need a name" I murmur as I stroke her along her back.

I take a seat in the grass still wet from morning dew. I think and admire her beauty. The name hits me out of no where. "Destiny" I say under my breath.

I speak louder "Yes of course, Destiny!" My voice causes Destiny to prick her ears forward and give me a curious looked.

Apparently I am not that interesting because she becomes distracted by the grass.

The black mare finally has the perfect name. Destiny.

It was destiny that we would meet. That I would fall in love with a horse that desperately needed me and I desperately needed her.

Whoever landed those lashes on her back would never be able to touch Destiny again.

I thought about the possibility of them being made from brambles but the lines are to perfect and to deep. Someone hit Destiny with the intent of hurt.

I felt like crying everytime I thought about this. My chest would start hurting and I could feel the heat behind my eyes. I push these thoughts from my mind and focus on the mare in front of me.

I sit there for who knows how long. The sun makes the morning due evaporate and I sit there and begin to bake in the sunlight.

The mare will often stop her grazing to look up fearfully. She always looks in the same direction and seems afraid of someone finding her.

"I will never let them hurt you" I whisper to her but her grazing is still interuppted by these pauses.

I stand and look at Destiny before making my way back to the fence. I climb back over and make a clean jump. I look back again to Destiny and find that she is staring back at me.

I smile. My horse finally has a name.
