Bobby curtis had made some big mistakes in his life. One had landed him in prison for 9 and half years. He and his friends had been playing chicken. Bobby and tim shepperd were in one car racing against a couple of soc. The soc's car viered off killing the driver instantly.
Tim took off before the cops showed up, leaving bobby to take the blame. Bobby swore when he got out he would make tim pay. But that was some time ago. Now all he cared about was getting to know his brothers again.
He waited on the steps outside pony's school. He was 15 minutes early. He lit a cigarette while he waited. Because it was a school for the hearing impaired, there was no bell. It was only a small school with no more than 30 students.
The drive to darry's work was very quiet. Of course bobby couldn't exactly write and drive at the same time, and he didn't know how to sign. He never thought he'd come home to find one of his brothers would never be able to hear him.
"Hey, everything ok" darry asked looking at bobby. "Yeah sure" bobby answered. Before darry climbed into the truck he looked in the back and got pony's attention. "Hi baby, how was school?" He signed. "Ok i miss my old school" pony signed back.
After they at dinner that night, both bobby and darry said goodnight to ponyboy. "Hey dar, do you think maybe you could teach me to sign some? I'd like to be able to talk to my baby brother too" bobby reasoned. "Sure big brother, we can start now with some of the basics if you want".
The next morning when pony came into the kitchen, bobby signed "good morning baby". Pony who still wasn't sure of bobby just yet, smiled and nodded. It was going to take some time for the oldest and youngest curtis to get to know each other.
