changes part 2

chapter six

"Hey curtis, telephone" darry's boss yelled out. Darry climbed cown the ladder and went into the makeshift office to take the call. "Hello" darry spoke into the receiver. "Hello mr  curtis, this is mrs summers, ponyboys teacher, i was just checking to see if ponyboy was feeling ok" she asked. "What do you mean, he should be in your class right now" darry responded.

"Sorry mr curtis, but ponyboy hasn't been seen all day". Darry felt sick. It wasn't like pony to skip school. "Thanks mrs summers, i was unawear pony wasn't at school. I dropped him off my self this morning" darry said before hanging up.

Darry calked the dx and home to let sodapop and bobby know about the call he just recieved. He then got the call out to their friends to keep an eye out.

It had started to get dark and there was still no sign of pony. The boys all went looking for him, but it was kind of hard not being able to call for him. He wouldn't be able to hear them anyway. After an hour of walking around they heard the greaser whistle. Dally had found pony asleep in the lot.

Darry shook him gently. Pony opened his eyes. "Are you ok?" Darry signed. "Yeah, i'm sorry" pony signed back. "You wanna talk about it" darry signed. "Guess i just got scared" pony signed back.
"What are you scared about" soda signed this time. "All the changes, i'm scared" pony cried as he signed back. "Hey kiddo, you got  othin to be scared of, in fact this might be a good thing" soda signed.

"How" pony signed. "Well you've been given a second chance at having a dad who loves you. I know you don't know bobby too well, but me and darry we think he's the best big brother. Maybe you two just need time to get to know each other" soda signed. "Hey before we  continue this conversation,how about we go home" darry spoke along with signing.

They got up and started to head home. Ponyboy surprised everyone, jumping on bobby's back. Bobby smiled the whole way home. It was going to take some work. But they had all the time in the world.

"Would you like to come to houston this weekend" bobby signed to pony when he picked him up from school on thursday.  Bobby thought it would be a good opportunity for the two to get to know each other without the others being around.
