Bobby had been in his room packing his things. His new boss had wanted him to start bright and early monday morning. He and liz would be leaving on the friday morning train. Bobby and liz had rekindled their relationship. It was as if they had never parted.

Darry entered the house with a stack of mail in his hands. He threw them on the table thinking they were probably just bills and he would look at them later. However when he looked at the table there was one letter that caught his eye. He picked it up and began to open it.

"Bobby, get in here" darry excitedly yelled. "What" bobby came running in. Darry showed him the letter. It was from a specialist in new york.
Dear mr curtis, we have recently heard of your son ponyboy michael curtis's hearing impairment. My name is dr david atkins, i am a specialist who deals with loss of hearing in young children. Just to let you know ponyboy is a little older than most of the children i see, but with your permission i would like to make him an appointment. My office number is at the bottom of this letter. I can't promise you ponyboy will hear again, but i can tell you i have had some success with some of my other patients. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Dr david atkins.

Darry and bobby stared at each other. Bobby showed liz the letter. "Well i think we should do it" she spoke for all of them.  They were all sitting in the kitchen when soda and pony walked in. Soda had finished work early so he offered to pick pony up from school.

"Hey guys, whats goin  on?" Soda asked. Darry habded him the letter so he could see for himself "so your sayin pony might actually have a chance at hearing again" soda asked with excitement in his voice. Bobby decided they should ask pony's opinion before they all got too excited.

"Hey kiddo, we got some news for ya" bobby signed to his son. Then he handed pony the letter. After reading the letter pony got up and went to his room. Liz and the guys followed not long after."whats wrong buddy" soda signed "i'm scared" pony signed back. "What are you scared of?" Soda signed back. "What if it doesn't work" pony signed.

"What does it matter, we all still love you just the same no matter what" bobby signed this time. He gave his son a hug. Pony hugged him back. "Ok, i wanna try then" bobby signed. Darry decided to book a flight for himself, soda and pony. Bobby was just about to start a new job so he would try and meet up with the boys at a later date. He felt bad he couldn't be there.

Liz wasn't able to take any more time off work. She had learned the basic signs. "I love you my baby boy" she signed she couldn't be more proud of her son weather or not he hears again or doesn't.
