changes part 2

chapter five

There was no easy way to do it. Telling this little boy that his parents weren't really his parents. Darry picked pony up from school on his way home, while bobby explained to soda he wanted pony to know the truth. "Just go easy on him" soda tried to reason. "The last thing i wanna do is hurt him" bobby replied.

At 2.30 darry and pony walked in. Pony was happy to see soda had come over, and it wasn't even friday yet. "Hey kiddo, theres something we gotta talk to you about, come and sit down" soda signed. "Am i in trouble?" Pony signed back. "No pony" soda signed back.

Bobby pulled out his wallet. He took out a picure. It was a picture of him holding pony in his arms the day he was born. He handed it to pony.

Flashback........
"Come on lizzy, say you'll be my girl" bobby pleaded. He and lizzy had been dating for a while but hadn't made it official. "Ok bobby, but i wanna take things slow ok" he kissed her lips and held her hand.

6 months later.....
"Bobby i thought you said nothing bad would happen" lizzy spoke when they got the results back. Sure enough lizzy was 8 weeks pregnant. "We'll figure it out" bobby tried to comfort her. "What will my parents say" lizzy cried.

3 months down the track.....
"My parents want me to put the baby up for adoption, they say i should think about finishing college" "my mom says theres plenty of time to have babies after marriage" she cried knowing how much she was already starting to fall in love with her growing bump.

Mr and mrs curtis..........
Bobby had explained his situation to his parents. They were both very understanding people. Darrel senior worked his fingers to the bone to provide for his family. Anna curtis kept her family well fed and clothed. "Ok son, we'll figure out" darrel put his hand on his oldest sons shoulder.

Labour pains.......
On the early morning of july 22 1954 the curtis's phone rang. It was lizzy's dad telling them lizzy was having pains and they should go to the hospital. Lizzy's mom and bobby's mom were in the room with her. As the sun started to set that night, a baby's cry was heard. Ponyboy michael curtis had entered the world.

First meeting.......
"Come on in bobby" his mom spoke. She handed the small bundle to her eldest son. Bobby looked down at his son  and his heart melted. Tears of joy ran down his cheeks. A nurse came in with a camera and took a photo. "I'll send it to you if you like" she told bobby. Bobby couldn't wipe the smile from his face. Bobby walked over to lizzy. "No bobby, i don't wanna see him, it already hurts too much knowing that i'll never hear him call me mom" she wiped away her tears, but more kept coming.

End of flashback.

This was a lot for ponyboy to take in. He had so many questions. What he couldn't understand was why bobby hadn't been around for the past 9 years and why it took so long to tell him he was his dad.
