I slammed the wooden door behind me, leaning back against it as I let out a long breath. I'd gone through endless teasing from Luke and Riley after I told them about what happened between me and Cole. I wasn't even sure what the hell it was, to be honest.

I had managed to avoid him for the rest of the day and got a ride home from Luke. Cole had actually texted me and asked where I was. I felt bad for worrying him so I told him I had gone home with Luke but nothing more. I just hope he doesn't show up here.

As if on cue I heard the familiar roar of is Harley outside. I peeked out the window to see him walking to his own front door rather than mine. I couldn't help but sigh in relief before he turned around, looking right at me. I quickly turned away and walked off, hoping he hadn't seen me.

"Maxi? Are you home?" Nate asked and jogged down the stairs from his room. I turned my head and walked to the kitchen, refusing to acknowledge him. I was still so angry with him. I clenched my fists as the image of his expression when dad slapped me flashed through my mind. "Maxi please talk to me," he begged as he followed me.

I kept my mouth shut, not even looking at him as I opened the fridge to grab a bottle of water. "Come on Maxi, I'm sorry."

"Sorry? Really? You're fucking sorry!" I shouted, my anger getting the best of me. "Dad fucking slapped me and all you have to say is you're sorry!?"

"I-... I don't know what else I'm supposed to say," he muttered. He was making that damn face. The one that made him look like a poor little puppy being scolded.

"You were supposed to fucking stand up for me! You were supposed to stop him! Tell him off! Fucking anything!" I exclaimed, trying to ignore the pain in my chest. "But all you did was fucking stand there. You know I couldn't give a shit less that he hit me, I don't even care. If you hadn't been there it would have been another story. But you were there. You could have said something, done something. If it were any other person that hit me you would beat the shit out of them, wouldn't you?"

"Of course I would, you're my baby sister."

"Then why didn't you?" I asked, keeping my voice as calm as possible as I stared up at him, trying to ignore the hurt puppy look in his eyes.

"Maxi it was Dad, it's not like I could have done anything..." he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I know that you're close to that prick but have you ever taken into consideration about how he treats me? He fucking hates me!"

"He doesn't hate you, Maxi, you just remind him of mom."

"He didn't treat mom like shit, he didn't fucking slap mom." My words forced Nathan to look away in shame. "Nathan, it's not your fault and that's not what I'm trying to say," I sighed, running my hand through my hair. "I'm not asking you to hate him I just wish you would stand up for me once in awhile."

"I know Maxi... I'm sorry. I'll do better I promise."

You've said that before and look at where we are.

I forced a small smile that seemed to comfort him. We hugged and he apologized a few more times. I told him it was fine and we pulled away when he got a call. It was Uncle Marty, asking him to go to the shop to help him with a repair.

"I'll be home soon okay? I promise I'll make everything up to you somehow," he said and hugged me once again before walking out the door.

"Why can't I ever just stay mad at you," I mumbled to myself. "Stupid Nate and his stupid puppy dog face," I grumbled. I grabbed a blueberry muffin and the book Cole had given me before turning the large radio on and hooking it up to the Bluetooth on my phone. I opened Pandora and let whatever play as I curled up in the corner of the couch.
