Leaves blew upward spiraling in a circle, as the train rushed by. Rose stared out the window, lost in thought. She was about 5'4, with golden hair that twisted in loose curls. Her eyes were the color of the sea. Though she didn't see herself in this sort of way, people were drawn to her for some reason. It could have been the kindness she carried in her eyes or the way she spoke which though soft, had a certain strength to it. Her aspirations and her goals were decades ahead of her time, and she had known this since she was a little girl, but there was nothing she could do about it since she could not time travel. Anyways, she was on a train headed to a small town where she would attend the most prestigious high school in America. This was quite the honor considering it was an all-boys high school and girls were not permitted on campus. That was not what scared Rose, in fact, she was happy to get away from girls constantly obsessing over marriage and how they looked. Unlike, the standards society held for young women in the 1950's, Rose had a thirst for knowledge, she would absorb it like a sponge. She wanted to know everything about everything. Though her favorite subjects were English and History. This was because of the fascinating stories they told, and if things would turn out different from what she wanted she would change the story to whatever her imagination desired.
Welton only accepted her because of her family's death and the will left her to a family friend, who just so happened to be the headmaster at Welton. Rose personally hated Mr. Nolan she always felt weird about him, but her father trusted him when he was alive and that's all that matters. You see, Rose's father was the kindest of men he worked hard his whole life in order to provide a home for her and her mother, but he never lost sight of what mattered most, love. Rose absolutely adored her parents they were independent and caring and everything she ever wanted to be. So when sickness overtook their small, humble family, she was devastated. Rose herself just narrowly escaped death, but she was lucky and lived to breathe another day. Now enough with the sad stuff because this is not a depressing story. In fact, it has a wondrous ending, if we ever get there!
Suddenly, the train came to a stop and Rose lazily took her luggage and climbed out of the train. Waiting there in a stiff suit was no other than Mr. Nolan himself. He gave a small grin and waved for Rose to come to where he was standing.
" Ah, I see you've grown into quite the young lady, Miss. Buffay."
Rose smiled and said, " It's nice to see you again, Mr. Nolan"
"Yes, indeed. Very well let's get on then."
They headed for the car. On the way to the school, Mr. Nolan went over her rules and living situation.
" From now on call me, sir, it is the proper way to greet a man. You will live in a single dorm on the same floor as the boys, it will have its own bathroom and that is where you shall go. As for studies, you will attend regular classes along with the other students. I have prepared a uniform for you that is of the utmost modesty and class. You shall go along as a regular student and I expect that you pass all of your classes."
Rose nodded along, she was just grateful she was alive so any standards he held she would meet.
"Very well then, tomorrow we will have our traditional opening ceremony, you are expected to be there and dressed in your uniform by 7:00. Albert will show you to your room," sighed Mr. Nolan.
Rose smiled, and said a simple "Thank you!" and followed after the man.
The lanky man led the way down a long hallway to a small room with a bathroom attached to it.
"This is it! If you need anything I work in the kitchen!" he exclaimed.
Rose plopped down on her bed and looked around a the plain, peeling walls. This was home now.
