Weeks went on and Rose began to fall into the continuous pattern of getting up, going to school, participating in extracurriculars, studying, and going asleep. She was barely escaping the Latin teacher's lust, but she was able to keep far enough distance, for at least the first few weeks. She was also getting closer to her new friends, but most importantly Neil. He was constantly sending her signals, but yet she still didn't seem to notice. He began to worry that she wasn't interested in him. But this was not the case. She was beginning to worry about the same exact thing.
Anyways, It was a cold fall evening when Neil ambushed Todd, who at the time was trying to make sense of Mr. Keating's lessons.
"Todd! I finally found what I want to do, act! It's what I've wanted to do since before I could remember!" exclaimed Neil. " I wanted to go the summer stock auditions but my father wouldn't let me!"
"Wait, where would you even be able to act?" asked Todd, who seemed unconvinced.
"Here!" yelled Neil, holding a poster up to Todd's face. " Henley Hall is putting on a production of A Mid-Summers Night Dream! God, it's perfect!"
"But how is your father ever going to let you do that?" questioned Todd.
" He won't have to know!" replied Neil.
"Well, maybe if you just ask him..." said Todd.
"Jesus, Todd! Who's side are you on! I didn't even get the part at least let me enjoy the idea" he said angrily. "If I don't ask him at least I won't be disobeying him."
Todd looked up at him, kind of scared he had never seen Neil so angry.
"You're coming to the meeting this afternoon?" asked/commanded Neil.
"I don't know, I have some history I want to catch up on" he replied blankly.
"Nothing Mr.Keating has to say means shit to you, Todd," Neil said harshly. " You're in the club and being in the club means getting stirred up by things you look about as stirred up as a cease pool!"
"I'm not like you! You say stuff and people listen," answered Todd.
"Don't you think you could be?" responded Neil.
Neil turned so his back was facing Todd and then snapped his head in his direction dramatically. You didn't think this wasn't a musical, did you?
Neil:
Right here, right now
"I put the offer out
I don't want to chase you down
I know you see it
You run with me
And I can cut you free
Out of the drudgery and walls, you keep inSo trade that typical for something colorful
And if it's crazy, live a little crazy
You can play it sensibly, a king of conventional
Or you can risk it all and see..."He then ran over to Todd and continued on singing.
"Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play
'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride
It'll take you to the other side
'Cause you can do like you do
Or you can do like me
Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key
Oh, damn! Suddenly you're free to fly
It'll take you to the other side!"Todd got up at joined in with:
"Okay, my friend, you want to cut me in
Well I hate to tell you, but it just won't happen
So thanks, but no
I think I'm good to go
'Cause I quite enjoy the life you say I'm trapped in
Now I admire you, and that whole show you do
You're onto something, really it's something
But I live among the swells, and we don't pick up peanut shells
I'll have to leave that up to you.Don't you know that I'm okay with this uptown part I get to play
'Cause I got what I need and I don't want to take the ride
I don't need to see the other side
So go and do like you do
I'm good to do like me
Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key
Oh, damn! Can't you see I'm doing fine
I don't need to see the other side"Neil came up and glared at Todd,
"Now is this really how you like to spend your days?
Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays"Todd laughed and replied:
"If I were mixed up with you, I'd be the talk of the town
Disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns!"Neil looked him in the eye and sang...
"But you would finally live a little, finally, laugh a little
Just let me give you the freedom to dream
And it'll wake you up and cure your aching
Take your walls and start 'em breaking
Now that's a deal that seems worth taking
But I guess I'll leave that up to you"Todd smirked,
"Well it's intriguing, but to go would cost me greatly
So what percentage of the show would I be taking?"
Neil shook his head,
"Fair enough, you'd want a piece of all the action
I'd give you seven, we could shake and make it happen"Todd looked at him like he was crazy!
"I wasn't born this morning, eighteen would be just fine!"
Neil replied with an,
"Why not just go ahead and ask for nickels on the dime"
"Fifteen"
"I'll do eight"
"Twelve"
"Maybe 9"
"Ten"
They shook on it and finished strong:
"Don't you wanna get away to a whole new part you're gonna play
'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride
To the other side
So if you do like I do
So if you do like me
Forget the cage, 'cause we know how to make the key
Oh, damn! Suddenly we're free to fly
We're going to the other side
So if you do like I do
(To the other side)
So if you do like me
(We're going to the other side)
'Cause if we do we're going to the other side
We're going to the other side"
