Rose found herself walking on a dimly lit street, it was cold and the wind blew through her petticoats, she wrapped her cloak around her tighter. As she looked around she noticed the ground was wet as if it had just rained and there seemed to be a sort of fog that made everything look fuzzy. She squinted and tried to make out anyone who seemed to be around, but as far as she could see she was alone. The town in which she was walking was gray and eerie. Silence filled the streets and bounced off the walls. It looked as if everyone who once inhabited the area just got up and left. It smelled of asphalt and mold. Rose looked around and found a phone off the hook a block up and began to walk in its direction. As she walked past the empty store windows, she felt someone watching her. She started walking at a more rapid pace, but still couldn't shake the feeling. Just as she was about to cross the road, two arms grabbed her by her waist. She kicked and screamed but it was no use. The figure pushed her against the cold brick with enough strength to break her back. When she regained thought she realized that her attacker was her Latin teacher. Tears began to swell in her eyes as he continued to hit her and call her unspeakable names. All of a sudden her body fell with a thud to the ground...
And then she woke up.
Rose looked around at her dorm still crying, she began to shake uncontrollably as pain over took her body. She knew she could no longer stay by herself. Lucky, Neil and Todd heard the commotion and ran to her aid. Neil picked her up and took her back to his room.
" May I sleep in your room?" asked a weak Rose as Neil carried her through the dorm room door.
" Yeah, of course my Rosie." Answer Neil.
"What happened?" asked Todd.
"I don't know how it happened... " explained Rose, " I...I have the most pain in my side."
Neil gently placed her on his bed. "May I?" he asked.
Rose shook her head yes. He then lifted her nightgown to reveal her torso. Ugly bruises lined her body, one was particularly bad near her rib cage. Neil covered his mouth with his hands in shock. How did this happen? It looked as if she had a broken rib and maybe some other internal damage.Todd look about just as terrified as Neil, Who could do such a thing to their beautiful Rose?
"All I remember was having this terrible dream... I was walking... and...and he grabbed me and started beating me up... and well..." explained Rose as she began to sit up.
"You couldn't have done this to yourself, there's no way," said Neil shaking his head.
Todd grabbed Neil's arm and pulled him away from Rose so she could not hear.
"It's Cameron."
Neil looked at Todd shocked, " He may be cold, but he wouldn't ever physically hurt anyone."
"Come on, you saw how mad he was in the cave when Rose made him look bad. I have a feeling... I know it's him."
Neil stood there stunned and angry. How dare that red-headed evil son of a.
" I'm going to check her room to see if he left any sign," said Todd. Neil came back to reality and went over to Rose's side.
" What was that about?" she asked curiously.
"We think Cameron did it," he answered while moving a piece of her fallen blonde hair behind her ear. As he did this he noticed how warm she felt. She was so worked up she has a fever.
Rose looked down, it made sense he hated her from the very start and had vengeance towards her ever since she called him out. She just never thought he would do anything like this. She also found it weird that she never woke up. I mean how could she not wake when somebody is beating her up. Then she remembered that earlier that day when doing school work Neil asked him to get her a glass of water, it tasted funny but she never paid that much attention to it since she was so stressed about the upcoming math test. It was drugged.
"Neil he drugged me! That's why I never woke up when he was hurting me!" she exclaimed.
"What?"
"Remember you had him get me a glass of water before you walked me back to my dorm!" Rose further exclaimed.
Just then, Todd came into the room with a note in his hand.
" I found this and we were right, " he said.
The note read:
Dear Rose,
Now you see, this is what happens when you step out of line. Find your place and don't tell a soul or next time will be far worse.
- Cameron
"Oh helllllllllllll to the noooooo! We did not just kill one guy to gain another!" said Neil
Rose began breathing heavily trying to catch her breath. She was overwhelmed and exhausted. The boys thankfully saw this and immediately began asking if she was alright.
"I'm breath having breath trouble breath breathing breath!" Said Rose.
"She is having a panic attack!" Exclaimed Todd. " She needs to hold her breath."Neil without thinking kissed her. She was taken back by this but then began kissing back. They then broke and Rose settled down.
" Damn" Said Todd.
Neil looked at Rose in admiration she was so brave she could stand up to men twice her size and he couldn't even stand up to one. She had no one but them and was thankful for every time they much as gave her a tissue. She relied on him to keep her safe and he let her down, well this time he was going to be there for her.
He turned to Todd, and told him that it would be best for them to deal with the red rat in the morning ( he was already advising a pretty great plan) and get some sleep. Todd agreed. They pushed the two beds together and put Rose between them, this way she felt protected.
Rose fell asleep within minutes of her head hitting the pillow. It was a tight fit but they ended up in a position where she was facing Todd and Neil was behind her, gently holding her waist careful not to push on any bruises. Though thoughts of the recent incidents clouded her mind, she never felt so secure in her life.
