Once I had made dinner for Haylee and I, I sat down to eat.

As I stabbed my chicken bite with my fork I began to think. Why would Kristy and her mother know he’s a murderer yet still live with him?

Maybe they really trusted him, well I didn’t, and after all he did kill my mother.

I had planned to talk to Kristy tomorrow; I had mapped it all out in my head, like… how it was going to go.

I was still sitting at the kitchen table and had just finished my dinner.

I got up from the table and placed my plate by the sink.

I then opened the fridge, took out the pitcher full of juice and poured myself a glass.

I walked down the hallway and into Haylee’s bedroom.

She was lying on her bed reading a book called ‘The Solemn Pledge’.

‘What’s that about?’ I asked trying to make a conversation.

‘Well, this girls mother knows a secret and is being used as a hostage and the mother has to sacrifice her life for her daughter.’ Haylee told me.

Those were pretty damn big words coming out of a ten year olds mouth.

That brief description sounded quite familiar in the words of mother.

‘Okay, I think its time for bed now Hails’ I said.

Haylee put down her book and snuggled in her bed.

I pulled the duvet up to her and tucked her in, just as mother would do.

‘Cozy?’ I asked.

She quietly nodded her head at me.

‘Goodnight’ I said walking to the door.

‘Avary!’ She yelled to me. ‘I love you’

‘Love you too’ I said back smiling.

I quietly shut her door and went into my room.

I walked to the bathroom and had a quick shower, to wash my greasy hair and remove the stench from my feet.

I turned off the faucet and brushed my teeth with my special purple mint crystal toothpaste.

I loved that toothpaste; it made the sun shine out the right end!

I had climbed into bed and fallen asleep.

I woke up to my phone ringing, I slowly opened my eyes and looked at my clock it was only seven o’clock.

I looked out the window and there was frost everywhere.

I picked my phone.

‘What?’ I said tiredly.

‘Get out here, its freezing I’m at your door!’ Someone screamed through the phone.

‘Sorry, who is this?’ I whispered trying to wake up.

‘It’s Kristy, quickly it’s so cold!’ She said.

‘Kay’ I said.

I started to fall back asleep thinking it was a dream, but no I realized.

I shot up in bed and got changed out of my pajamas so I didn’t look like a retarded sloth.

Why is she here, why is she here is the thought that kept popping up into my head.

I had gotten dressed into some decent clothes and I walked out the door grabbing my big black coat.

I put my hands in my pockets as it felt like the cold was feasting at my warm hands that had just come out of bed.

There I saw Kristy standing at my front porch wearing a nice white coat with pearls and red lipstick, she looked very mature.

‘My father is a murderer, yes.’ Kristy said walking up to me. ‘In 2010, your mother passed away and you obviously know that he killed her. He came home that day and told my mother and I…and we got him to move out as we didn’t want him in our house’ She explained.

‘Oh, I’m sorry’ I said looking at the floor. ‘It’s been so long since I’ve been to your house, I didn’t know’

‘I know and I’m sorry, its just I was kinda mad at you because my father left because he killed your mother, but I shouldn’t be mad at you…it’s not your fault’ She said shivering.

‘That’s okay; hey do you want to come inside?’ I asked her.

‘I’d love to, thanks’ Kristy said.
