‘A new woman?’ Haylee said with a puzzled look.
‘A new woman’ I said nodding.
We both walked towards them.
Haylee began ‘Father, a new w…’ I put my hand over her mouth.
‘Girls this is Veronica, we went to school together, I just bumped into her at the café’ father said ‘Veronica these are my girls’ Father smiled at her. That’s the smile he gave mother!
‘Girls, lovely to meet you!’ Veronica said.
I stopped to think.
Oh my… don’t even get me started, she looks like one of those perfect flight attendants, you know, with the bright red lipstick and the matching red mini skirt.
Her skin was all evenly tanned, she had perfect white teeth and her hair was chocolate brunette.
‘Nice to meet you too’ I said with a blank look.
‘Perfect, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!’ I said as I walked off ‘Fathers going to marry an uptight Barbie doll, I knew that smile he gave her, he is going to marry her!’
‘What does uptight mean?’ Haylee asked.
‘Doesn’t matter’ I sighed. ‘Let’s get in the pool’
We got in our bathers and jumped in the pool, I just stood in there and thought again, no just no it can’t be happening!
The day went by and Haylee and I went on many rides trying to avoid the fact of father falling in love again, well at least I was trying to.
The day went by and it was 3pm so it was time to go. Haylee and I ran up to father ready to go and he was still with Veronica.
‘Right father time to go, chop chop!’ I said trying to leave.
‘Well, I guess I will see you girls tonight’ Veronica said hugging father. She walked off.
‘What does she mean tonight!?’ I said panicking.
‘Veronica is coming over tonight for dinner, hope you girls don’t mind’
I was shocked not only was he talking to her the WHOLE time we were there but now dinner?!
The car ride home was silent. We ended up calling into In & Out (which was our local grocer) and picking up a few things for dinner.
We got home and I was about to get a snack when father interrupted and said,
‘Girls, we don’t want Veronica to walk into a clutter so I would like you to clean your rooms and…’
I stopped him
‘My room is clean’
‘Right well, Haylee room please and Avary, make sure the cat is…cared for will you dear, oh then the bathroom?’
Father never really understood my interest in cats, it was mother that had interest in them like me, not to mention my cat does have a name!
Haylee walked off into her room as I fed Mr. Fluffletoes his extra crunchy salmon flavoured biscuits and father put the roast in the oven and cut up the vegetables.
You could smell the lamb cooking in the oven, wait was that basil I’m pretty sure I smelt basil! Father doesn’t cook with basil or any herbs!
An hour had passed and I had just finished cleaning the bathroom. Ding Dong!
