I press my ear to the door of my dad's room. I hate how he always does stuff in here without me. I hate how he promises to always tell me the truth but makes me trade; a truth for a truth. It's annoying. I know I probably shouldn't be saying this, seeing that Lord Revier has to deal with all of Evening's businesses on top of his usual work, but I am.
I collect my homework papers and drop them onto the floor, then kneel down besides them. I turn my binder over and get ready to drop it (this way, if someone suddenly opens the door, I could drop my binder and pretend I was just picking up my homework, not eavesdropping), then adjust my position and focus.
"... Near the South Pole," my father, Lord Reden Revier, says.
"A door? Is there anything special about it? If there isn't, then I want you to stop investigating that case and focus on the caches." I'm surprised that my mother, Lady Nyeria Revier, is the one speaking; she's not actively involved with Evening and what they do. Also, this means that they're still focusing on the caches. I'm pretty sure that I have a shot at opening them, seeing that I'm around two years older than Black Swan's Technopath, but I can't be sure until I get my hands on Kenric's cache. As for Fintan's, whatever that's in there is probably information I don't want to see.
"Yes, there's a glowing blue sign consisting of three hollow, wave-like symbols angled towards one another, placed on top of a ring."
"I think we should tell Everlie. There's nothing alarming about it, and besides, we don't usually keep secrets from her. Unlike some people," Nyeria added. I'm pretty sure she's referring to Black Swan.
"Okay, then," Reden says. Footsteps follow. I quickly step a few times to match, then drop my binder and kneel down, sweeping my homework papers together.
"Everlie?" Reden asks. "Oh, good, there you are." He looks at my dropped folders. "Haven't you invented a gadget for picking up papers yet?" he teases, dropping down besides me to help.
"No," I sigh dramatically. "I'll see if I can make one."
"There's something I need to tell you," Reden says, then describes the door, along with the symbol on it, to me.
