The Defender

When I told Aqua about my date, she squealed and dragged me to the mall for a dress. One, measly dress! She picked out some good ones but the one I liked the most was a red, blazing dress that brought out my eyes. Aqua put a ton of make up on my face but I washed it off, thinking that I looked like a clown.

Hearing growling outside our camp when I was about to leave, I went towards the sound and found a giant scaled thing which was three times the size of me and was breathing fire.

A dragon?, I thought in my mind. I ran towards it and ir growled at me. Frightened, I jumped back just to trip on it's tail. Screaming, I ran away from it. With the biggest eyes possible, glowing redish-amber, made me soften up. Once again, I crept near it and petted it's head.

"Are you a boy?"I asked. It growled and snapped its teeth at me. I guess not then."So, can I name you Violet?" Still petting the dragon, the head vibrated and I guess that meant a yes. Laughing, I told her,"I'll be back later. Will you be okay?" She nodded, I hugged her and left, feeling her eyes on the back of my neck.

"So, your finally here,"Connor said. I nodded embarrassingly and he laughed. "It's a joke." I laughed with hesitation my face glowed bright red. Opening the door for me into his dark car, he jumped into the driver's seat and started to drive west. Stopping at a nice diner named Twisted Lemon, once again, he opened the door for me and we stepped out

"Reservation for Hunter," he announced and we sat down at a nice, velvet covered table. I ordered some salad and half a steak while he ordered three whole rare steaks. I wondered if he needed that much because he was a werewolf or it was because he was a boy. Since he finished it under 5 minutes without getting a single speck on the table, he ordered 2 more. Unbelievable.

Walking up to the car again, we entered and I must've fallen asleep, because when I woke up, we were in front of the hotel Aidan and Keith reserved. It wasn't a bad hotel, in fact, it was a 5 star, but I missed the forest sometimes. That's why I visited the forest so often. It was just a plus that I met Violet there.

Pretending to go inside and actually leaving when he left, I went to go see Violet. I gasped when I arrived, seeing her bent down, eating something with blood dripping on her teeth. Seeing me, she growled and I stepped back, thinking that she would hurt me. When I closed my eyes, I felt something nuzzle against me affectionately and I opened my eyes to see Violet. Her teeth where no longer stained with blood, but I was a little afraid of her.

Hugging her tenativly, I held her by the leg and pulled myself up onto her back. At first, she just stayed still, but with a little coaxing, she took me back to the hotel with me on her back. By took, I meant fly. When Aqua saw me-I mean us-she hid behind the building and shrieked in a high voice that hurt my ears, and probably Violet's ears too.

"Amber...Just why are you on a dragon?"she asked with suprise and fear.

"Um...I just,...stumbled upon Violet here when I was in the woods," I admitted. I figured the truth was the best way to go.

She screamed to high hell and said,"That's even worse! You don't just happen upon you, they choose you. You are chosen. Now Violet is your protector, almost even more important than Aidan."

I was shocked. I didn't even know that. Even worse, she kept going,"And, dragons are almost extinct so you'll be even more of a target now." Mouth gaping, I took my hat off and found her a cave to live in. Although it was a 1 hour walk away, I didn't care as long as she was close to me. Walking back, on the way, I saw Aidan and we walked home in silence.

I didn't even know that I started calling it home till now. That reminded me of my mom, and I realized I missed her very much. Even though my dad was dead, I still thought it was better tahn this.

What I would give to be normal. I sighed and headed inside.
