Confused (Memory Poem)

Waking up that morning

Unaware of what will happen

I wanted to wear that ratty old t-shirt

The one with that shiny american flag

But mom wants me to look nice on my first day of school, rather than dirty

So I am angry that I can't wear my shirt

And upset that she left me

All alone with people I don't know

But then she came back in an hour and a half

I thought I was supposed to stay until noon

But i'm excited that i'm not alone

Yet she looks scared, sounds frightened in her voice

Everyone looks scared today

But I am confused on this september day

It's only preschool

It's not that bad

So why is everyone scared?

I am just confused

(This poem was based on 9/11. It was my first day of Pre-K and was really memorable. R.I.P. To everyone who lost their lives that day.)
