Chapter 2: Reunion
Walking to my next class, I couldn't help but feel elated that I'm finally back in school again. My teachers and even some deans understood what was going on with my family. I was allowed to take some time off for a couple of days, too. At first I was shocked, where have you ever heard of a college giving their students a break? Especially expensive, good ones like NYU? This was a silver lining, a blessing in the sky. God was on my side. They made things easier on me and I was relieved.
Of course, during my absence though, I was required to keep up with the work from all of my classes and such. I admit, it was tough, y'know, having to juggle school with my jobs as well as being on the streets. However, I drilled in my head that this was my life and it would be this way until Sofia is fully cured. I could live with it just for her. I'd only do this for her, so I'm doing it.
It wasn't quite time yet, but being early, in my opinion, was not only auspicious for me but also my professor; I graduate, he gets congratulated on doing such a good job educating his student. Besides, I still needed to catch up with my writing class, so early morning meant much earlier work being done.
Moments later students filed into the classroom, getting into their usual spots and turning on their computers. Professor Roberts bursted into the room thereafter and began his lesson.

"Ughh! I hate Professor Ramirez!"
I continued to eat my pasta as Jazmyn went on with her rant about one of our teachers. This one in particular happened to have it out for Jazmyn...You bet I didn't believe he was after her. The only reason she could be failing is because he's a strict math teacher, and in that subject she bullshits mostly. That's a fact, she's been doing it ever since high school. It's not her best subject. However, it's requisite for her major.
Anyway, Jazz always gave faulty excuses when it came time to explain her bad grades. Each time was a new excuse, but recently this one has been sticking. This couldn't be any different from all the others she laid on me. I'll give it to her, for a girl who claims so many things are the cause for her exacerbating situation, she still manages out with a passing grade.
"Jazz, I'm asking you for the millionth time, what makes you think that Professor Ramirez is after you?!" I finally release, halting her rant.
She simply pouted. Sometimes she can be so childish. "Why don't you ever believe me, Mía?! I'm telling you the truth! Besides, you're my best friend, I shouldn't have to explain myself."
Cue the eye roll. "Great speech, I guess that's what you are going to tell your parents once they ask about your report card," I say, going back to eating.
"Just when I was happy you're back," she huffed.
I chuckle. "I missed you too, Jazz."
"Oh please, you missed me as much as you missed the the pile of work Professor Jean plopped on your desk! I swear she could be just as malevolent as Professor Ramirez sometimes. She literally saved up all of that paperwork for you until you'd come back instead of messaging you or something."
"Jazmyn I did so miss you and don't worry about that pain in the ass."
"If you say so...but it does explain that she's not only been teaching for 32 years but has been single for 32 years too. Seriously, the woman needs some dick in her life. Point blank!"
Laughter as well as the remainders of my food abruptly left my mouth.
"Oh Jazmyn, I really did miss you while I was MIA," I coughed.
