"All losses in this world are due to lack of ability."
"Blood. The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. I am fortunate enough to have found all of this in one person. The person we've all gathered here today to say goodbye to, a life that ended way too soon."
As the rain poured down upon the cemetery, people clad in all black gathered around a closed casket and a young man with black hair while he spoke.
Those eyes, that hair, he was the spitting image of her in every way right down to the way he smiled. But there were no smiles today, not at all.
No today was the day that no child is every really prepared for, the day they have to bury their parent's corpse and say goodbye. But this was happening much too soon.
He was only 10 years old but reality had struck him like a bolt of lightning and made him realize that in this life, anything could happen at any moment. Good or bad.
But what no one seemed to notice was the fact that he shed no tears and spoke without even a tremble in his voice as he gave everyone a small smile as he spoke.
"My mother was a kind person who always believed in helping others and was willing to accept hurt so another wouldn't have to suffer. Truly, an angel among man."
As he spoke, a boy around the same age as him held an umbrella over both their heads and glanced at the casket at their feet.
He knew the truth, his friend's mother was no Saint but rather a woman hellbent on pleasing others so she didn't ruffle any feathers.
He'd seen the bruises, the scrapes, the winces of pain from when he moved his body a certain way. She was abusive to her only son. Both emotionally and physically. And now he had to sit here and support his best friend while he gave this bitch's corpse the respect it sure as hell did not deserve.
But he said nothing, all he could do was support his friend at the time he needed him most no matter how badly he wanted to yell out the truth. Hideyoshi Nagachika was just a great friend like that.
"But now she's gone and taken her place up above. I know it's selfish but I wish she could've stayed with me, but I know he called her home for a higher purpose."
He picked up a white rose and placed it on the casket as he smiled. Unconsciously placing his other hand on his chin while he did so.
"Goodbye...mom. I'll miss you."
Hide just stared at his friend's back and spoke in voice so low that no one could hear him.
"You're such a bad liar...Kaneki."
