Kaneki, Tsukiyama, and Hinami all stood on a rooftop above an abandoned factory.
Kaneki had informed them that their new teammates would be located here since this was a perfect place to hide from the Doves.
Kaneki jumped down first, followed by his two allies who stayed close behind him so not to get separated. That's when they came out.
Four ghouls, all wearing gas masks approached the small group and stopped just a few feet from Kaneki.
"It's been a long time Banjou. You and your crew are looking well."
The leader stepped forward wearing the same outfit he'd worn when he was tasked with carrying Kaneki away by Ayato.
"Ken Kaneki, it's been far too long my friend. You're looking well for one of the most wanted ghouls in all the wards."
"Yeah well I do my best to keep a low profile. How've you all been since fleeing Aogiri?"
"After you freed us from Jason and the rest of the tree, we took to hiding underground and avoided being seen by anyone. You know how people like Ayato and Tatara are."
"That I do."
"We can't even hunt properly since we can't use our kagunes so it's been a struggle."
"What if I offered you asylum and a place to really belong to?"
"What?"
"I need you Banjou. You and your friends. I've formed a team and together we've waged war on Aogiri Tree and some of the Doves. Wanna be part of that? If you do, you'll be kept safe and fed. If you don't then that's fine too but then you'll have to live your lives looking over your shoulders more than usual."
"That...really makes the decision easy."
"It really does."
"Let me discuss this with my friends really quickly and then I'll let you know."
"Take your time."
While they discussed their options, Kaneki was pulled to the side by Tsukiyama and Hinami who definitely had questions.
"Who are they?"
"And why does he look so familiar?"
"Back when I was first captured, Banjou was made to carry me to their base. When Yamori finished torturing me, he and friends were made to come in and clean me and the mess up. Blood. Piss. Shit. Semen. All of the good stuff."
"I see..."
"Sounds rough."
"It was...but not as rough as what I did to Yamori little Hina."
Banjou and his friends approached them shortly after their much needed discussion and decided to let their leader do the talking.
"We're all for it."
"Excellent. I'll have Tsukiyama give you our contact information and set up a temporary base of operations. Right now though, Hinami and I have a little meeting we need to get too."
"We do?"
"Yup."
Kaneki gave his new allies a departing handshake and left, leaving Tsukiyama to handle the business while he and Hinami headed towards a familiar area. Kaneki thought this would be the perfect time to talk.
"So, how've you been holding up?"
"I'm alright I guess. I mean I still miss them and all but...it won't bring them back to me."
"That's why we need to get stronger Hinami, so others never have to suffer the way we did. It's the best we can do for them."
"...Something's been bothering me though. Why do you care so much? I mean you were human after all so why was it so easy to switch to our side?"
"To be honest it wasn't but at the same time it was. I had always been the outcast back when I was human, people rarely spoke to me and barely acknowledged that I even existed. I've only ever had one friend since I was a kid and he was the one to approach me because he was new and had no friends. And now it's like...I have this whole new life with a bunch of new friends whom I'd gladly lay down my life for. You, Tsukiyama, Banjou, Uta, Yomo, Yoshimura, and yes even shitty Nishiki despite all of his attitude. And of course, Touka."
She smiled, she'd only ever heard of most of these people but Yomo, Yoshimura, and Touka she knew from the time she was a small child. How could she not, Anteiku had the best coffee in all the wards.
She liked Kaneki though because in the short amount of time that they'd known one another, he'd treated her like he'd known her for years and was helping her find a way to exact revenge on the investigators who murdered her family.
As they walked around a corner they stopped and stared at what Kaneki had wanted her to see.
There, standing outside of Anteiku was Touka on her cellphone, oblivious to the fact that she had company.
"Big Sister!!"
Touka jumped when she heard a young girl yelling and turned to see something she'd never thought she'd see again.
Hinami bounded towards her at full speed and jumped into her arms without a single in the world. They'd missed each other so much.
Touka was at a loss for words so she just embraced with tears threatening to fall out of her eyes. Hinami, the little girl she came to view as a little sister was still alive and well.
She'd heard about the raid on the Fueguchi Clinic and that a couple ghouls were exterminated so she had feared the worst. But here she was safe and sound with Kaneki. Kaneki?!
She looked up and saw him smiling awkwardly at the situation before him which made her incredibly angry. How dare he.
After they'd rescued; well attempted to; him from Aogiri, he'd formed his own little team with Uta, Tsukiyama, Nishiki, and Yomo but excluded her. Then she'd heard about how his attitude was just the worst now but here he was, giving her a warm smile that was definitely fake as hell.
She let go of Hinami and began stalking towards Kaneki who kept backing away with his hands up, trying to explain himself.
When she'd reached him, she found herself throwing a punch and missing as he dodged it and grabbed her by her waist and hand, before leaning in and kissing her directly on the lips.
She was shocked and was about to resist and tear him a whole new asshole in his chest but found that her knees were weak and her body hot. Damn him.
He released her from the kiss and spoke in a monotone that sent her heart aflutter.
"I've missed you."
