"I've missed you."

She kept replaying it in her mind over and over and over again but she still couldn't come to terms with it.

Kaneki had not only saved Hinami, but he'd brought her to see her and not only that but, kissed her and said that he'd missed her. It was as if these two things had made all of his past wrongdoings alright.

She'd taken them both to her apartment above the cafe and was currently listening to Hinami chatter about joining Kaneki's group and that they were going to take revenge on those who'd killed her parents.

She was listening but her mind was elsewhere, she just couldn't help thinking about what Kaneki had done and the fact that he was avoiding eye contact with her wasn't helping.

"Hinami, can you give Touka and I a minute?"

"Oh sure. Should I-"

"There's a TV in my room!", Touka blurted out quickly. She hadn't meant to, but she did.

Hinami got up and went into Touka's room, leaving Kaneki and the latter in absolute silence.

Kaneki smirked and looked out her window and watched as the clouds went by.

"I'm sorry Touka."

"What?"

"I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"I shouldn't have kissed you like that without your permission. It was wrong and I'm sorry."

That was what he was sorry for?! Not only had he abandoned her after defeating Yamori, but he'd also ignored her and just showed up out of the blue without even calling first. But he was sorry about the one good part of today?

She got up from her seat and walked over to him before sitting on his lap and staring into his gray eyes before locking lips with him again.

He placed his hands on her hips and held her in place as he tilted his head upward and deepened the kiss. Her hands found their way into his snow white locks as the kiss became more aggressive. As their tongues danced around in each other's mouthes, they fought one another for dominance but before they could go any further, there was a knock at the door.

Touka got up and allowed Kaneki to back flip off the couch towards the backroom where Hinami was located and waited to hear what was going on.

She opened the door and instantly the sent of human and deceased ghoul flooded the apartment which alerted Kaneki to the situation. Doves.

He quietly grabbed Hinami and made his way out the window, using his kagune them both up onto the roof just so they could be there if something went haywire.

He listened as Touka and Yoshimura spoke to the Doves but felt Hinami start to tremble next to him.

"Hina?"

"That Dove...his weapon smells just like daddy..."

Kaneki gasped but grit his teeth and held her a little bit closer. The CCG was sick, using deceased ghoul's kagune as weapons. He hadn't even realized that they could smell their deceased friends and family inside the cases.

When their little investigation was over they watched as the Doves who Kaneki had let go left Anteiku before going back inside Touka's apartment.

"You're still here? I thought that when they came you had-"

"This ends tonight Touka. All of it, and I want you to come with us."

"Come with you where? What's going on?"

"The investigators who were just here...the old man was carrying a case. A weapon made from Hinami's dad."

Touka gasped as she looked over at Hinami, who was avoiding eye contact with anyone.

"I made the mistake of letting him live awhile back so naturally I take responsibility for all of this. But no more, tonight when they return we shall see him dead."

"But they said they didn't find anything. That everything was okay."

"I know a liar when I meet one. Trust me, that was just a diversionary tactic. They'll be back and when they do..."

Kaneki turned his back to both of them and removed something from his pocket before bringing it up to his face and when he turned back, his mask was once more in place.

"We'll be ready."

It didn't take them long to come up with a plan that would give them the advantage over the Doves and they'd even gotten Tsukiyama and Nishiki to provide backup.

It was time. Time for sweet revenge.

As the Doves approached Anteiku after Yoshimura had left, Kaneki along Touka and Hinami observed from a nearby rooftop.

"Ready?"

"Yeah."

"Yes."

"Alright then, let's go."

They jumped down from their vantage point and landed just few feet behind their enemies before engaging in a stare down that would make even a deity sweat.

"Eye Patch."

Kaneki locked eyes with the investigator whom he'd let go multiple times and stood as stiff as a statue.

He couldn't understand why but he had a certain amount of respect for the man. He didn't seem like a ruthless killer like his partner, but rather someone who was only doing what he believed was right. But there was no time to think about that now.

He instructed Touka to take Hinami and go while he handled the both of them but found himself faked out by the old man and slashed by his partner.

Kaneki summoned his kagune to battle and engaged his opponent while leading him away from his partner.

He took hit after hit and allowed his kagune to be repeatedly destroyed as he bought Touka and Hinami the time they needed to reach the canal and sewer. His opponent noticed it too which is why he could no longer play games.

"Now that you've noticed, you know I have to fight you for real now."

As his kagune spawned to life again, he ran towards his opponent with the intent to disarm, not kill.

"DAMN YOU!!", the man yelled out in anger as he engaged once more, finding it a little more difficult to stave off Kaneki's attacks this time around.

As the two clashed again and again; neither gaining the upper hand; it became apparent that he was desperately trying to defeat Kaneki so he could go and aid his partner.

Kaneki understood the want and need to save an ally but for his allies to be safe and haopy, that man needed to die.  That was just how things worked in this fucked up world of theirs. Lost friends. Lost family. Just loss period.

He looked up at one of the rooftops and saw that Banjou was giving him the signal that it had been done, the old man was dead. There was no need to fight any longer.

Using his tails, he pushed himself up off the ground and propelled himself toward Banjou.

Once there, he looked down at his opponent and sighed, "For what it's worth, I'm sorry it had to come to this."

The man wasted no time and took off in the direction of his partner like a bat out of hell. But it was too late. Nishiki and Tsukiyama had already informed Banjou that they had left the area and that the target had met his demise.

"Let's go home, we've done what we came to do."
